Surely Maguire can't coach NSW & NZ

He's also an assistant at Canberra for another season.

And a 5 Month contract? WTF are NSWRL doing?

  3. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

Wait, NSW actually signed him to a 5 month contract?

Hopgood is the next Parker. He'll play this year.

Yeah, he might get a game. Though likely won't be picked without an injury to our full strength pack.

    Where does he come in?

    8. Tino
    9. Hunt/Grant
    10. Cotter
    11. Fifita
    12. Gilbert
    13. Carrigan

    14. Hunt/Grant
    15. Flegler
    16. Collins
    17. Arrow

He'll be fighting with Horsburgh and Mo for a spot if a middle goes down.

  6. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

    Misses too many tackles.

  7. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

    93% tackle efficiency last year.

Yeah but always a few get cut down by Game 3. I personally wouldnt have Gilbert or Arrow in the side. Mo has to be there, the dude makes 12-13m a carry.

I cant remember a time when we've had this much forward depth. Only a couple wouldve played in the dynasty teams but there's so many to pick from who are good to very good. Most have Origin experience too.

Tino, Collins, Cotter, Carrigan, Flegler, Fotuaika, Gilbert, Nanai, Capewell, Fifita, Arrow, Kaufusi, Horsburgh, Welch, Hopgood and a few others ive probably missed.

With the first two games being played in Sydney and Melbourne, we are definitely up against it. And given the players NSW have to pick from, they really should win this series. But i suppose thats been true for the last 5 years.

Mitchell should be very seriously considered to replace Tedesco if the latter plays like he did last year.

You sound like a Blues selector. Those 2 are effort players.

Would you go 3 props on the bench? Or drop Flegler for Mo? For mine, Mo is 1st guy in if a prop goes down.

Gilbert has the exact mentality you want in an Origin forward but he's a middle, not an edge player. Fifita, Nanai, Kaufusi and Capewell all offer line breaking ability that Gilbert does not.

And yeah I'd pick Fotuaika over Flegler but I could see an argument for having the two of them on the bench with Cotter and starting Collins.

Slater seems to like playing a defensive middle on one of the edges though. He started the series with Gilbert, then he had Cotter there for game 2 after Gilbert's injury, and Arrow is his bench flex player who ends up on an edge if everyone is fit.

  15. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Yeah he does but I dont know why. Rather him pick actual edge players to play there.

  16. jazman84 JM Eightyfour

He probably thinks he's bolstering the defence on that edge, while having a monster like Fifita on the other, but a good middle defender doesn't make a good edge defender.

As for picking another edge player, I'd be pleased if he picked Kaufusi, but we know he'd pick Nanai or some shit, so I dunno. I trust Slater's gut calls at this stage.

Nanai is a huge threat off the bench.

  18. jazman84 JM Eightyfour

He's such a huge liability defensively though. He sorts that out and he's just given the jersey for the next decade.

In the past I wouldnt pick a Nanai but the law-makers and refs have crippled defence so much that a player like him just isnt such a big concern. What he brings in attack more than compensates the poor defence. Game is very different from 10 or even 5 years ago.

And it's for the worse imo. I enjoy watching the game less and less as they move away from what made it great.

Looks like Gilbert is done again for the season. Devastating for him, and the Fins tbh.
