Take the Tevez example. Not allowed to moan about wanting to go home because he's on 200k

Not really. Just Fulham fans that were too lazy to move back from the ground sharing 10 years ago.

You on a mission to start the most unworthy threads in a day or something Baxter?

Yeah it always makes me laugh when I see fans on Twitter complain that a player is out because he's ill or injured, because they earn a lot of money. Recently Yaya Toure was out with migraines and there were constant complaints that "he can't play with a migraine despite being on 250k a week". That money doesn't just suddenly allow them an incredible immune system or an overly resilient body.

Fans do have the right to expect a certain level of commitment on the field and in training from players though. I agree that a lot of stupid things get said, but fans are intrinsically linked to players' wages and have every right to complain if a player isn't pulling his weight.

I agree of course but it's not like a player is going to ask for lower wages - if a club offers him high wages, or wages above his worth, he'll take them, as any of us also would.

I agree with the sentiment that commitment is the key thing though. If a player isn't trying as hard as he could then the fans have every right to complain. Apart from that though, there's not much to complain about. Fans actions in general make me laugh in football - when someone moves to a higher paid job (as we all do in our lives) they're a cunt, disloyal, only want money etc. It's just all the more impressive those players that do stay with one club.

Yeah, I also laugh when fans say "If you're on 100k a week, you shouldn't miss that sort of shot" or something similar. Football just has ridiculous wages at the top levels, it doesn't mean the footballers are actually superhuman.

Nah, some of that criticism is deserved. It fucks me off whenever I see really one-footed players that make it to the top level; at the age of 8 years old I forced myself to become two-footed, how the fuck can someone playing the game professionally have such a thing as a "weaker foot"?

I can't tell whether you're actually being serious.

  15. Furball G Furball

    100%.

I would love to see you using both feet to the same standard, in a professional game. Using anything that is unnatural can obviously be trained, but in the heat of the moment, when you're running full pace, pushing your body to extremes, obviously you're gonna make mistakes using parts of your body you wouldn't naturally use. Not only that, but they are only human, they are gonna make mistakes, simple as that.

Everything you do on a pitch in relation to kicking the ball is coached to a degree - what part of the foot to use for what purpose, where to put your non-kicking foot etc - so it's nonsense to suggest that players can't be trained to use their weaker foot, and when it's your fucking job, there's absolutely no excuse for professional footballers not using their "weaker" foot.

Granted, I've never played at any serious level but I reckon if you were to play against me then you'd struggle to work out which foot was my natural foot because I'm equally comfortable playing with either. The only giveaway is striking dead balls, which I've never bothered practising with my weaker foot.

Can you read? Or do you just choose to ignore what I said?

I agree that more people should use it, but to suggest that players can't put a miss down to using their weaker foot is simply ludicrous. You can't expect players to be prepared to use their weaker foot if they're going to be ridiculed for a miss when they do use it.

Well if you've never played at any serious level, how can you question it yourself?

  19. Furball G Furball

I have no personal concept of a weaker foot, I've coached myself to use both feet. I don't understand how some players can reach elite levels of the game when they only ever seem to use 1 foot.

Literally, do you read? I bet those players who you criticise are better on their weaker foots than you are. However, if they're going to be criticised for missing goals because they're using they're weaker foot, and then be ridiculed when they put it down to their weaker foot, why would they risk using their weaker foot in the first place?

Your argument is like me questioning why people who play the euphonium can't triple tongue well, just because I've trained myself to do it. It makes no sense. One player is gonna be better at other parts of their game to others, simple as that.
