One thing to keep in mind is that unlike some of the more talked about shows around here and elsewhere, The Wire was not a hyped up show by any means when it aired. The show did just modestly ratings-wise but was still backed by HBO even though it was overshadowed by more popular shows like Sopranos and The Shield. I think it wasn't until after the DVD set was released that the popularity of the show grew through basically word of mouth.
Yeah nothing spectacular writing wise. I'm reading the books right now though and I'm glad I started. While the storytelling isn't fantastic, the story certainly is.
Started watching season 4 a few days ago. Up to episode 7. Been pretty solid so far. Probably rate it somewhere between S2 and S3 so far. Even though I know what happens, I'm interested to see the manner in which quite a few things are resolved.
Gooble gobble... Just as a point of interest, if you had to name your favourite character who would it be? I think mine would be a tie between Tyrion and Baelish.
Daenerys is average. Her first season is good but after that she only has awesome moments. Always been a big Sansa fan though, Baelish is great too. Jamie and Tyrion probably some of my favourites after that. Bran would be my least favourite.
Cersei is a pretty gun 'villain' in the show thanks to Lana, was far far far more tedious in the book.
