Gaz is also becomes an absolute madman on the field too, his demeanour completely changes. He does become that fired up guy people can get behind.
I mean in a hypothetical world I can imagine a young kid going to Ablett and saying he's concerned with how he's fitting in at the Gold Coast and say, is struggling to make friends at the club and meet people outside it. I can imagine Ablett's method of dealing with the concern (however *senorchanggay.gif* it is) to be awkward, passive and resembling something from South Park. Someone like Jobe or Hodgey I can imagine going to to the enth degree to ensure the players were settled, happy and comfortable and in the above situation finding an appropriate, respectful and long-lasting solution to the issue. I know I'm making a lot of judgements based on very little we see but I do that a lot okay. I'm perceptive enough to get away with it <_<
He looks like a cancer patient while bald though. I know this is judgemental but I couldn't really get behind a leader who looks like a gimp on the field. Honestly reckon his on field leadership would at least look a lot more forthright with an image change i.e. hair. Aware this is a shit post but it's pretty valid IMO. If Jobe Watson shaved his eyebrows he'd look like a minder and I doubt his players would be as inclined to follow him. Ablett just looks stupid with his whole bald look, he can't pull it off, and I reckon it does hurt him. A full head of haired ablett would just come across so much more assertive IMO, and I can't explain why.
Yeah, I can see this. He wouldn't give a definitive solution, he'd suggest a couple of ideas and leave it up to the bloke. I don't think Gary would have the confidence (bit insecure like you said before) to think he could straight up stamp out the problem.
Exactly. Nailed it. At a club like Hawthorn or Geelong he could get away with it. With heaps of young fellas who are in a whole new world, he really can't.
Never got the un-approachable vibe from Ablett. Seems like even if you went to him with a small thing he'd do alot to help. Him and Cotch are deffs leaders by actions more then words.
Well yeah, that's where a group of senior players would help, but I think Gary's leadership group of Bock, Brown and co would have been ideal to help with these sort of things. And if it's an on-field issue I'm sure if Gary wasn't a help the coaching staff would be. Obviously he's not a perfect leader, I think he was definitely the correct choice however.
Could not disagree with this more, it would not have any effect whatsoever and if anything, it's probably helped GCS (easy to spot the bald head, kick/handpass it to the bald head, something good happens etc.)
