RG Cribb Cup - Asia vs. New South Wales

Asia's Clay Evans has picked up an impressive five-set win over Luka Popovic to send his side on the brink of the semi-finals in their tie against New South Wales.

Evans, who feels at home on the clay, was forced to overturn a one-set deficit on two occasions with Popovic starting better, and producing an impressive third set.

After dominating the first with his powerful groundstrokes and attacking attitude, Popovic was peeled back in the second by Evans' more consistent stream of deep hitting and clutch serving at break points. In a razor-tight tiebreaker, it was Evans who saved two set points before securing it 8-6 to level the match at a set each.

Popovic's failure to take that second set tiebreaker would be even more stark after he wrested back control from Evans to dominate the third set in a return to form. But again, as the match went on, it was the fitter and grizzled Evans who kept on fighting, and started creating chances on the up-to-now rock solid Popovic service.

With a gritty and impressive couple of sets, Evans secured a resilient 1-6, 7-6(6), 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 win, to set up the 2-0 lead for Asia.

Generally speaking, the best team plays until the dead rubbers.

Geez that was a tough comeback, thought I was gone for all money. Hopefully we can get a win in the doubles and take a 2-1 lead.

Dire. Still confident we'll win. Morgie will do us good in the doubles, O'Driscoll won't lose twice and I'll clean the floor with shitwick.

RG Cribb Cup - England vs. Victoria

English pairing Chad Dyer and Paulson Reframe have put England's Cribb Cup team ahead 2-1 with a dominant win over Victoria's Nigel Scott and Alistair Son.

Dyer and Reframe, who have played well as of late, would have expected a bigger challenge in the form of the Victorian pairing who had made two finals in their last two tournaments on grass.

Unfortunately for the Aussie duo, they were completely played off the park in another bitter blow to the confidence of Alistair Son, who copped a tidy hammering against Eddie Morris on Friday.

After being dominated in the first set, Scott and Son staged a brief fightback in the second, before again tumbling to defeat as the English side moved a point away from claiming the tie and a spot in the semi finals.

The final score was the impressive Dyer and Reframe being victorious 6-1, 6-3, 6-0.

RG Cribb Cup - Asia vs. New South Wales

Asia are through to the semi-finals of the Cribb Cup, following Jono Chewie and Leumas Himann's surprise win over Morgan Burridge and Alex O'Driscoll.

Burridge and O'Driscoll, paired together for the first time since their doubles final appearance in Monte Carlo, were heavily favoured despite the unfamiliar conditions, but started slowly, as Chewie and Himann looked cohesive in front of the Colombo crowd.

After dropping the first set 2-6, the Burridge/O'Driscoll pairing lifted in the second, as they begun to take control with some consistent strokeplay and well-crafted points.

But the hosts stuck at it, and, despite dropping the second set, continued to create chances on the Burridge and then the O'Driscoll serve. That allowed them to, against the flow, take the third set with a fantastic backhand reactionary volley from Chewie to put them on the cusp.

Again, the New South Wales Cribb Cup team failed to keep the pressure up, and, in front of a rampant home crowd, their disinterest cost them dearly.

In a one-sided fourth set, Chewie/Himann ensured the final day would be full of dead rubbers, as they secured a comfortable 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 win.
