Not going to lie, that was an incredibly tough decision. It was between Montolivo, Javi Martinez and a certain other player for my next pick. Eds picking JM made it slightly easier. Had to go with the most likely to be picked out of the two and that was Montolivo. Not to mention my massive man-crush on him. If anyone is wondering where I'd play him - you can visit my thread.
He's generally underrated so he may have slipped under the radar this round but it would be pushing it to say he won't go early next round though in all fairness. Quality player and has just oozed class since signing for Milan. I mean he was amazing for La Viola too but he's gotten much more attention since signing for Milan. Easily their most consistent player this season. They don't look the same without him.
The fact that I can exercise so much freedom with regards to where he plays also tipped the scale in his favour. I don't think many people realise what a versatile midfielder Montolivo really is.
This season hes played 2 games out wide, the rest of them in the centre and he was shite for those 2 games
2 games out wide? No. He plays as a wide midfielder in Allegri's 4-3-3 where someone else plays the central role.
I guess you're talking about the two games against Barcelona? He's played more as a wide midfielder in Serie A this season than a central ftr. And he's been brilliant this season.
They are called Mezz'alas who are classed as side midfielders. It isn't as compact in the centre of the field and they provide more width than your typical wide CM.
Bit of biased might have come into play, admittedly. I just want to get my midfield sorted out quickly.
Bolonga and Catania are the only two games I recall him being not properly in the middle tbh, and he was direeeee
Did you catch the Milan-Lazio game earlier this month by any chance? He played central in the Bologna game from what I recall and he was hardly terrible in that game.
I'm with Goat tbh. I think he's a good player but we're not exactly running low on players who can do as good a job as he can.
