Just chuck some random questions in here for a bit of fun. My old man and I play every now and again when we find some interesting fact out or have a question to ask, but obviously it'll be easier online because dudes will google. Anyway, (to the best of my knowledge) four people have coached AFL football after not having played in the league themselves. One of these is Mark Riley, who coached Melbourne as a caretaker in 2007 after Neale Daniher resigned but was not retained and Dean Bailey took over. Can you name the other three?
Brendan McCartney Neil Craig John Cahill Wayne Brittain Col Kinnear I think fit the description you meant anyway
John Cahill played VFL footy (probably should've put in VFL/AFL footy). Col Kinnear is a good one though, we did a heap of research and only got McCartney, Craig, and Brittian
Decent! The articles and trivia we found is so wrong haha. Nice. Someone come up with a less flawed question imo
Question: There are many instances of players registering more/less possessions than disposals. A: What is the difference between a possession and a disposal B: There are at least 8 ways a player can register a disposal without a possession or a possession without a disposal. Name them.
I stand corrected haha, for some reason I thought he played for North or Essendon or something for a small period in the 70s. I am having a shocker.
I thought it was as basic as a possession taking possession of the ball and a disposal being disposing of the ball. So I'd say a disposal without possession would be: kick out from fullback, soccer off the ground, free kicks. Can't think of any more haha.
It's hard to help with B without answering A so I'll just do it anyway. Possession refers to how the player gains the ball. Disposal how they lose it. I'll give an example of B just so people know what I mean An example of a player winning a possession but not a disposal is - taking a mark and having the siren sound An example of a player having a disposal but not a possession - a shot at goal after a teammate has taken a mark and then gone off injured
Yep, pretty much. So many people refer to disposals as possies etc. when they're very different. Kick out from fullback counts if they play on. The first kick (either directly from the kick out or to themselves) isn't registered as a disposal. Soccer off the ground is definitely one. Free kicks aren't. If you win one it's counted as a contested possession UNLESS it's off the ball in which it's an uncontested possession. You won the free kick and in winning it you take possession of the ball. The act of 'winning' or 'receiving' the free is classified as taking possession.
