Maybe it has something to do with the fact that he's played the vast majority of his football through the middle ever since. And the fact that in rep footy his record at second row has been quite solid and his record of playing in the middle, has been absolute pus. I'm not under any illusions about his ability, but you've been conclusively proven wrong that he's better as a prop than a second rower. That's been disproved beyond a shadow of doubt. I wonder when it'll click.
It wasn't 20 minutes. He has a fairly consistent record of working over NSW's halves and running good lines on the edge, with a half who knows how to use him. He gave Maloney a hell of a time. He's done the same to Pearce. And he was quite solid in Game 3 this year. I wouldn't have him in the Test side either and he certainly has declined as a player, but it's been hugely exaggerated by this insistence on using him through the middle. He just isn't a prop. The sooner people like Magic and Sheens and Meninga get it through their fucking heads, the better.
You're definitely under illusions about his ability, that's not even up for debate anymore. I'd liken it to having a discussion with a Bulldogs fan about Tony Williams. But to set something straight I never actually said how good he'd be as a front rower, I just said if he wanted to continue in First Grade he should convert himself into one. No guarantees it'd be a success but he's just such an average second rower that as fat as I was concerned it shouldn't even be a plausible option him playing there anymore. If he wasn't a Broncos player he'd be a bench filler for a mid-tier NRL club. The frizzy hair in a one team city did wonders for him.
This doesn't even deserve a response. Especially to someone like you. Typical Magic. Advocates Thaiday to play prop and then when it fails does backward somersaults. Did not see that coming. ...
"Hannant, Mcguire, Parker & Thaiday are already 4 very good options in the middle." Very good, really? If you'd meant lock then I could probably partially forgive that. He might make a decent go of it not having to take the early charges and concentrating on defence. Alas you were talking about him as a prop. God you're dishonest sometimes.
Yeh they always bring up a random game or two that shows how good he is if only he "is used properly" or "gets his head ritght"
Fair enough, genuinely don't ever remember rating him as prop always thought he'd shown some potential there and should be persisted with as an option. Personally I'd still persist with him in the middle because he's just really not much chop on the edges either & no that's not because he hasn't played there in a long time that's because when he was playing there he was just flat out mediocre. Something you still can't admit because he plays one good game a year that leaves you hoping. Someone just needs to let him know he's not a "ball playing prop" and never will be.
I've criticised him many times for his decline on the edge. And I agree he was mediocre when the Broncos were playing him there before the move to prop. Which is why I can certainly see a decent argument for turning him into a lock forward; as you say he isn't a ball player and doesn't have a reliable offload in his game. But he cannot be used up front especially as a starter. He hits the line and there's just nothing after it. The power-running second rower's days are numbered, I agree, but with a decent half you can use a player like Thaiday to work over opposition playmakers and that's what happens when he plays there for QLD. He's serviceable. He is not serviceable when he has to take hit-up one or two every set. Has quite a bit to do with, as you correctly point out, he's fucking lazy in attack.
If it wasn't for Samoa, it would be pretty shitty. Luckily we have...Scottland to look forward to next. There can be only one.
