Jarryd Hayne debuted for the Eels halfway through 2006. Made his origin debut 2007.

    lol Williams.

  6. Julian BJ Taylor

Legit a better halfback than Reynolds. I'd love to see Melbourne get him

 actually meant Tony Williams :ninja:
Off the bench and up the guts the way Manly and Roos did a few years back, cunt would tear it up.

And then he'd miss 8 tackles and drop the ball 4 times.

    Williams

Tell Tony Williams he'll get dropped if he doesn't play well. The bloke feeds on not being in his comfort zone.

In my opinion NSW's issues starts and ends at the spine (plus bench utility). It's pretty even through all other positions. Farah is a selfish cunt that shouldn't be picked again. Nathan Peats is most likely the answer. He also seems to be a good character that NSW can start building some culture with. Fullback there's mountains of options coming up. Hayne is likely to be back in the fold, Tedesco needs to be in the side somewhere as he's a game breaker and Moylan has given NSW something they've completely lacked with Dugan at the back. The halves is where NSW are cooked though. They desperately need Moylan to be playing five eighth regularly next season but it doesn't look likely. As for halfback, I'd go back to Pearce. I still think he's the best option. He was picked far too early - Cooper Cronk wasn't picked for QLD until he was 26 and didn't play in the halves until he was 28. Pearce will be 28 come game 1 next season. He's a much better player now and needs to be picked. Reynolds isn't the answer.

My NSW side for Game 1 2017 would be:
    1. Hayne (c)
    2. Tedesco
    3. Leilua
    4. Bird
    5. Mansour
    6. Moylan
    7. Pearce
    8. Woods
    9. Peats
    10. Klemmer
    11. Frizell
    12. Jackson
    13. Finucane
    14. Austin
    15. Merrin
    16. Cordner
    17. Tamou

I'd be tempted to drop Finucane or Merrin for Graham but a purely edge backrower on the bench is not needed with Austin there as he'd go into the Michael Morgan edge backrower role. He'd be perfect for it too. If Moylan isn't playing the halves I have no idea who I'd pick at five eighth.

Why are people picking Hayne? How likely is he to return? What's his dream now?

  14. Julian BJ Taylor

There is no chance of Hayne being back. He'll try and play in Rio and then get paid squillions in Japan or France. If he is back, given Tedesco, he should probably play five-eighth IMO.

  15. Julian BJ Taylor

I don't mind this side, with a few buts....

but: Hayne won't be back, so: Tedesco to fullback and Tom Trbojevic on the sting
but: Tamou is cooked. Paul Vaughan or Junior Paulo would be much, much better bench props.
but: why on earth pick Josh Jackson. Cordner and Frizell have shown without doubt they're better.

BUTBUTBUTBUTBUTBUT: You've left out Bryce Cartwright. He is deadset the most essential player to get into the Origin arena since we were ignoring Todd Carney 7 years ago. Second row, bench or five-eighth I don't give a fuck but the team almost needs to be built around him (especially considering Hayne will not be back)

I do however like the idea of Moylan at 6.

    a) Hayne won't go to French Rugby. He loves being the centre of attention. He'll be back. I don't mind your option though.
    b) I wanted to leave him out but just didn't know what other prop to pick. Fifita is too slow on play the balls so I couldn't pick him. I don't really rate Vaughn as highly as everyone else on here and I thought Paulo was a Kiwi?
    c) I never rated Jackson until this series but he's been really good.
    d) I think he's too loose at the minute. Given that this is a team for 11 months time I am very open to the idea of him coming in if he can fix his defence and cut out the errors.

Not sure how you can bemoan Farah for being selfish and then make Hayne, one of the most egocentric dickheads in sport, the captain.

Cartwright is just the definition of gambling. He's just as likely to make errors and miss tackles as he is to produce the x-factor they need but it's a gamble I think they need to take. I'd keep him in the second row. Five-eighth is a bit of a stretch at this point imo. Maybe next year if he's played more footy there.

I don't get Jackson playing on the edge tbh. Cunt is a lock afaic and he's not remotely good enough to play there over Merrin.

  19. jazman84 JM Eightyfour

Yep. It makes sense at the Dogs cause they play inside-out. I named him at lock in my side because he's been respectable this series (while not really playing like an edge forward mind you).

I hope someone else stands up as a hooker in the next few years because I really don't want McCullough or Friend for QLD.
