Oh true. Couldn't really make out the first bit. That would make more sense.

Woods playing 17 minutes is dumb. He must've been injured.

Aren't you glad as a NSW supporter that he got even less time this match than last given how dreadful he was?

Didn't have the time to show anything. He's never made a huge impact at the start of games but rather as the game wears on he manages to keep a strong level whilst others fall off. Difficult to achieve with the consistent intensity of origin tho.

If he's going to play like that and play the way he does for our club, then I'm fine with him not being picked anymore.

    QUEENSLANDER!

I think Daley just decided he was getting better output from the other three props and fair enough too.

Starting him was stupid to begin with imo, 22 year old prop who's barely had any experience at SOO level and you want to lead him the pack in one of the biggest origin deciders in history?

His time will come, just needs to get some experience off the bench first like the did with Merrin.

Honestly I don't understand how the situation can change something. Props have a pretty simple job. Tackle and run forward. It's not like being a half/hooker/fb where you've got pressure to create/lead or like being in the centres/second row where there's positioning/decision making things that you could fuck up or dropping key balls.

So easy to get lost in origin if you're not used to the pace or you're are overawed by the occasion.

There's also a big difference between pushing blokes like Fulton, Pettybourne & Buchanan out of the way for a hit up compared to blokes like Bird, Tamou & Lewis. Especially for a 22 year old.

In a typical yardage set your first and second plays are generally outside back runs then your 3rd and 4th plays are generally runs in tight and the 5th is a bit of a lottery. You're talking 2 plays to get a hit up in but in the opening 20 you've got blokes like Hoffman, Lewis & Bird all determined to help out with the yardage game. Even Tamou's workrate compared to club level has been noticeably less (in the 82 minutes he played this series he took 17 runs).

It's a lot easier coming off the bench to get involved because the forwards are looking for a break and are looking at you to take some of the workload off them. It's by far the easier role for an inexperienced forward.

Well, I think your thoughts in the post show why he didn't get time he perhaps needed to show what he can do. He was just so out of his depth in the first 20 that I think, as Magic said, Daley was better off resolving to take him off and use the others. Woods, as you said, is a player who relies on work rate over long stints. The only time Woods has looked half decent was when he came back off the bench for his second stint late in Game II. I think he could make a decent bench prop in Origin but yeah starting him is just not the go at this stage. Same goes for Merrin and Fifita to varying extents. Fifita made less than 6 metres per hit-up. You can't start with props like that.

Cunt should be banned for life.

Yeah Grant absolutely should have played once we needed someone to start. I said so at the time but even I didn't actually expect the difference in performance to be so big. Woods was abysmal.

NSW have a weird thing with props. It's obviously borne of club form mentality from year to year. Perhaps injury and maybe a drop in club form does hinder retention but still. When you find a cunt who stands up amongst a swath of nuffies, you ought to remain loyal to them. Justin Poore stood up in Game 3, 2009 when the revolving door policy of Bellamy struggled to find a single decent prop. He didn't see 2010. Tom Learoyd-Lahrs stood up in Game 3, 2010 and didn't see 2011 (only Game 2). Tim Grant stood up in Game 2 last year, he was nowhere to be found in 2013.

I don't think we've seen the last of Paul Gallen. Perhaps if he'd risen to the podium with Farah and held the shield aloft he may turn his attentions to the Sharks for 2014. Then again, not being part of the game yet winning, may have intensified the fire in him. He will be 33 next year, and I think NSW may be on a bit of a hiding to nothing with two games in QLD so we'll see. I thought Farah did a good job of deputising for him. He's obviously the long-term option given he's only 29.

Our long kicking game was pretty fucking ordinary last night. I cannot fathom why on earth Smith only kicked twice. He didn't kick anywhere near enough all series. The two kicks he did put in averaged over 50m each whereas Cronk was picking out NSW's back three all night. Smith has the best long kicking game in the world IMO and we totally failed to utilise it.

Unbelievable effort from QLD to complete at 88%. It was going to take something like that to beat NSW at home for the first time in 3 years.
