Is Luai playing for the Tigers this year or next year?

Theres always surprises, but bronkers and panthers looked so far ahead last year it's hard to see it not being them again bar injuries.

    Next year.

I think the Warrriors go to another level this year, Luke Metcalfe looks a real talent if he can provide Shaun Johnson with a consistent partner it will do wonders for them. I’m excited to see RTS in the centres but I’ve got a feeling he eventually ends up at fullback, such an underrated signing that’s gone largely under the radar. He’s still only 30.

I reckon they probably have the best forward pack, trying to think who would be better?

I think Storm and Sharks are going to offer very similar to last year, not like either side have a group of juniors they could expect an increase in output from and neither side have added any quality to their 17 in the transfer market.

Roosters & Rabbitohs both under performers in 2023 but for reasons that I think still exist at both clubs so probably just as prone to under-perform again but enough talent in both squads to do something if they get it right.

Cowboys, Parra & Knights all kind of fall into a group of I don’t know what to expect but just don’t have the ceiling to challenge for a premiership IMO.

As for the ladder, I think the teams can be separated into tiers. There could be some shifts up and down, especially between B, C and D. But only up or down 1 spot.
I expect Panthers and Broncos to remain a level above the rest.
Warriors will probably slide a little, outside of the 4, but remain in the 8.
Manly are a bit of an unknown, as everything tends to rely on Tommy's fitness, but also the addition of Brooks could bump them into the 8.
I had some hopes for the Cows, but there seems to be some drama there, and for Leilua to ask for a release to go to the Dragons? Something is up...
Knights probably overachieved a bit last season, teams will have better plans against them I think.
Sharks are on a slide. They just don't have the pack to contend with the better sides. AFB arriving next year will help though.
Dolphins have a side that can crack the 8, will need to rely on a good run of luck with injuries etc. though.
Roosters once again have a very strong team on paper, and I could even put them up with Panthers and Broncos and not be too unhappy about it, but after last season's start I'd need to see more of how this team actually performs when the whistle blows.
Raiders are one that I was tempted to drop to E tier, but their pack is too strong, and could jag an unexpected win here or there. We saw it last year, being the first side to beat the Broncos. And also managed to make the finals although they looked a bit weak on paper.
I think we'll see another Penny Minor Prems, and a Dragons Spoon. I think Broncos Prems, but that's heavily biased.

Overall I reckon the ladder will shape out something like this.

    A Tier

    Panthers
    Broncos

    B Tier
    Storm
    Rabbitohs
    Roosters
    Warriors

    C Tier
    Sharks
    Cowboys
    Eels
    Knights

    D tier
    Sea Eagles
    Titans
    Dolphins
    Raiders

    E Tier
    Bulldogs
    Tigers
    Dragons

I'm going Roosters top 4, Rabbitohs missing the 8 again, Warriors missing the 8 too

You could actually be on the money with the Bunnies. Graham is out for 6 months, and if Walker's injury is anything like Latrell's last year, they'll struggle.

Are Penny, Broncos, Storm, Roosters your top 4?

  8. Toolman TR Man

I can definitely envisage Shaun Johnson getting injured again and Warriors flunking because of it.

Melbourne were very bog by their standards last year and still finished third. A lot riding on not having to use Meaney at the back.

How was Katoni Staggs ever in the conversation to be a 5/8? His inability to pass almost cost me 500 bucks tonight. Very good running centre but seriously inept at passing.

Little bit lost as to why we keep trying to market this game as the all stars game as well, The NRL “all stars” stopped playing in it a long time ago.

I went Ado Carr ATS thinking he was lining up against Pompey.. they swap sides too much nowadays for that to be a reliable strategy though, i've been caught out several times because of it.

Corey Paix named on the extended reserves when the whole first grade side is overseas is the ultimate disrespect.

Surely they just let him go?

  13. jazman84 JM Eightyfour

He's under contract, was given permission to look elsewhere last year.

Luciano Leilua on 900k is wild.

Wigan defence was pretty great to watch this morning. They were hurting the Riff.

    100%

It's a weird contract. Good work by his manager tbh. Knew Dragons had cap to spare, knew they were desperate not to have another player in talks slip away, and also knew Cows would likely be prepared to cover some of the bill for a period. Realistically; in the current cap-climate, he's probs worth around the $550-600K mark, for a side with a good chance to play finals.

Dragons are probably footing $700K, which isn't outrageous overs for them as a side in such a state, beggers cant be choosers. In 3 years time, $900K isn't going to be tippy-top numbers either.

Manager knows he can aim high if Cows are covering. So he did and nailed it.

That try to Wigan was beyond a pisstake. The ball had to be a good 6+ inches from getting to the line.

I ain't going through a whole slideshow, but why wouldn't Cleary be #1? He's the Aus halfback. If you mean at their specific positions I suppose Haas is the best.

Are we going to do tipping this year or nah?

  20. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

I didnt mean Cleary shouldnt be no.1 really. Just that this gens top 10 is well below the standard from 5+ years ago.
