    That's unrealistic if women could inherit titles previously. If they couldn't, then Westeros is currently in the throes of social change.

    Maybe the author's painted himself into a corner by killing off all those male characters left right and centre over the past 6 years because he didn't realize initially that the prominent high born women would end up outliving the men largely by virtue of their gender. Maybe he planned it this way intentionally. We don't know.
