Hypothetical: Origin teams under the 'new' rules applied retrospectively

Because they've already declared their eligibility for Queensland then they wouldn't stop them - like Inglis/Teo - but under the new rules..

Folau - no, could only play for NSW (15 when he moved to Qld)
Hunt - yes, moved to Qld at 11

Pretty impressive, must have been flying from NZ to Brisbane every day for training in his first year.

 Yeah apparently I'm completely wrong on that, he moved when he was 11. I thought he literally moved the year he started playing for Brisbane.

I must've been watching a hologram at Kougari Oval 12 years ago. Biggest halfback you've ever seen in your life.

So with the 13 rule, does this prevent other NZ born players from playing origin, if they move to NSW/QLD after they turn 13?

How come Adrian Lam was able to play for QLD having played for PNG & never (I think) for the Kangaroos if there's a "must be eligible for Oz" rule.

There's been a few egregious violations even of the previous, rather latitudinal rules. Tony Carroll played for both Australia and New Zealand, and of course, QLD.

That was during the super league years and with the Broncos going to super league, Qld could barely muster a team full of first graders so we're able to give Lam a run as PNG is close to Qld.

Is Carroll the only player to play tests for NZ & Oz?

Given league's relatively shallow pool of players I can understand a little laxity where it comes to non-traditional league countries and ex-test players turning out for them (Mini with yer Eyeties and Petero for Fiji, say), but when it comes to the "big three" nations it makes a mockery of things if players can just move between them.

Given a lot of them make their livings in Oz I'd bet an awful lot of the current NZ team would be eligible for the Kangaroos under the three-year residency rule.

It's an anomalous case. There would've been others in the 100+ year history of the game but it's pretty rare and certainly doesn't happen any more. The grandfather of RL, Dally Messenger, played for both for example.

Nathan Fien played an origin game and went on to play for NZ

  12. Cribbage RG Cribb

Yeah it does. Unless they've already declared their eligibility previously.

  13. Colesy BL Hornby

Nightingale would be such a gun origin player

  14. Incey BC Jacobs

I could live with 6. Foran 7. Carney.

  15. Sultan Pepper HG Emm

I'd fap myself to death over that.

I didn't want to sound too eager incase Nady reads it.

We've already had the discussion about Nady's team if all the Manly Kiwi players were available for NSW and he readily conceded that he would pick the entire Manly team unchanged. His candour was admirable and very appreciated. I have new found respect for him.

    What Sultan Pepper said.

I did not. I said Matai wouldn't make the team due to being eligible for Qld only. Everything else is as per programmed.

Matai didn't move to Queensland until he 20; he's not eligible to play for them under the new rules, the old rules or the made up variation of the new rules initiated in this thread. :p

He's eligible to play for New Zealand, Samoa and ironically Australia despite not being eligible for SoO.

We were talking hypothetically though. Matai's club was the Ipswich Jets, so that's why I wouldn't pick him in the Blues squad.

I'd have Foran any day of the week.
