Kroos is awesome. But more like Kagawa than Scholes I'd say. I wanted Martinez.

Then you don't really watch Kroos much.

Not that it matters, I doubt he'll move from Bayern to Utd.

    Kroos like Kagawa :/

  4. Furball G Furball

Probably not but he'd be the ideal replacement.

    Even better

He's been given a league two match between Accrington Stanley vs Rochdale this weekend

    Unbelievable tbh

  6. SuperNova SJ Nova

Probably still too high for him

How is Martinez like Scholes anyway ? He's a DM.

And Kroos plays deeper these days, though can't see it happening anyways.

The refs do Football League games all the time.

    This season already.
    Atkinson - One Championship game.
    Dean - Two Championship games.
    Dowd - One L1 game.
East - Two L2, one L1 and a JP Trophy game.
    Foy - One L1 game.
    Halsey - Two Championship games.
    Jones - Two Championship games.
    Marriner - One Championship game.
    Moss - Two Championship games.
    Oliver - One Championship game.
Swarbrick - Two Championship and a L1 game.
    Taylor - One L1 game.

Only a few have done only Prem games.

    Foy hasn't done a league 2 game since 2008...

  10. Verigoat S Verigotta

Probably about time he did one then

    Palace ftw!

Then he was more likely to be picked for it.

So from refereeing at OT to a league two game in the matter of one week, seems a bit dodgy to me.

He's not really, but no one is like Scholes except maybe Pirlo and Alonso. Martinez takes up similar positions and he's awesome.

Scholes' game has changed quite significantly in recent years anyway. He wasn't always a sit back and pick out long passes CM. In his early career his trade mark was arriving in good positions into the box. Hell he spent some time playing almost as a second forward in our transition period when we lost Cole, Yorke and Beckham. He's closer to a DM than anything in terms of his positions nowadays whereas before he was closer to an AM.

When people say we want to "replace Scholes" they generally mean someone with a bit more creativity to create that chance that sometimes we lack in our games now. Not an exact like for like with the 35 year old who despite being a remarkable midfielder, and when it comes to his passing - switch hitting and long balls in particular - iss second to none, is nothing on who he was as a player in his prime.

So wrt to replacing him I think most players touted would fill that role in some respect but the thing about Scholes was, tackling aside, he is/was a perfect midfield player. Personally I'd like to see Hamsik at United. While he hasn't played this role whenever Ive seen him for napoli I think he has all the attributes to sit back and pick out long passes and we all know how good he is at getting forward and finishing from inside and outside the box ala Scholesy.

You already have Shinji Kagawa to replicate the Scholes of 10 years ago.

I think the system we're going to now Kagawa will be more used as a second striker rather than a CM. Scholes (that brief period aside) was still used in a midfield of 2. I think Rooney is being moulded into that role atm though. I think what we really need is a big tackler in there now. Someone to win the ball back for us in midfield like Keane used to. We can't rely on Fletcher now with his illness so we need cover and I'm still skeptical about Jones in midfield

    From last season.

Halsey reffed the ManU 5-0 win over Fulham and followed it up with a League Two game between Morecambe and Accrington.

Walton did the season opener between Newcastle and Arsenal. Followed up by Crawley and Southend.

Swarbrick, Villa/Newcastle followed up with Crewe/Port Vale and Bristol Rovers/Cheltenham. Later on had a Sunderland/Arsenal game and did the Southend/Crawley after that.

Jones had the Liverpool/Blackburn game. Did Northhampton/Swindon after.

Are all those dodgy as well? All reffed Prem games and followed up with a League Two game. I can't even be bothered to check every one of the refs and if I listed the Prem -> League One it would be massive.

    Fraser Forster?

Has he become amazing at Celtic, cause he was never good enough to oust Harper as #2 at Newcastle.
