But they're 16 odd episodes in the new series and I can honestly say, I don't know where they're going in this series.

    Compared to other seasons?

I was hoping with Ashton Kutcher that they maybe a basic story line, even when Charlie Sheen was the main guy, it had more of a flow

Maybe I'm looking too much into it tbh

The storyline now: Kutcher is a billionaire who girls love and bought Charlies house and is living with Allen who is leeching off him.

The storyline in other seasons; Charlie is a rich guy who girls love and is living with his brother Allen who is leeching off of him.

Yeah but Charlie was a much more interesting character in that he was such a turd. They had to make Waldon a really nice guy for the whole "Allan still lives with him" thing to be at all believable (and honestly it still isn't) which takes a lot away from what they can do with his character. They've had to change the Allan character as a result to make him the arsehole of the show which hasn't really worked - it worked better when he was the nice guy with a pathetic streak; now he's just an absolute parasite of a man who lives with a manchild.

They've tried to do what you said but they were hamstrung too much by trying to get Allan's residency situation to 'fit' and it hasn't worked.

Yeah I don't necessarily disagree with you it was a lot more interesting with Charlie. He had a lot more personality than Walden does.

In saying that though Allan hasn't really changed that much I mean yeah he has a bit of an ego on him now but it isn't anything unrealistic. He was jealous of his brother now he is jealous of Walden. The reason why he has gotten that assholey streak to him now is because he has leeched off his brother for so long and now that he has fooled Walden he feels that ego boost that he did it again and Walden has no clue. To be fair, towards the latter seasons with Charlie he was starting to build that ego anyway as he knew more and more that Charlie likes him too much to kick him out. Charlie was still a lot more likely to kick Allen out than Walden would be though. I wouldn't say they have changed the character, more exposed what he was like the whole time but was hiding it. He is still the same pathetic man who we have always seen he is now accepted his role as king leech.

I'm with Cribb, although possibly feel more strongly about it. It's just not funny any more. At all.

Didn't Charlie Sheen have another go at the writers saying that it 'sucks'?

He does have a point but just comes across as being bitter for getting the sack.

I think Allan has changed, quite suddenly, and I don't mean the ego thing either. I think he's just a lot less likeable, and I think they've done it on purpose because Charlie used to be the arsehole of the show and it wasn't possible to make Walden the arsehole and still have Allan live there - someone had to be arsehole to maintain the show balance.

We used to feel sorry for Allan because he'd been screwed over by his ex-wives - he was a genuinely nice guy who was desperately unlucky and had to live with his brother because he had no other option. Now he's leeching off a complete stranger which makes him a lot less likeable straight away, but even beyond that he's no longer a nice guy who's just looking to get by and find a girl etc - he's a sneaky, manipulative parasite who cheats his way through life and deserves all the 'bad luck' he gets. When Charlie was the arsehole he was still somewhat likeable as a character because he was a winner and it was funny; Allan playing the arsehole role doesn't work because it just isolates the audience, and Walden isn't as likeable as a nice guy either because it's not like we can feel sorry for the billionaire.

They've had to play around with the whole balance of the show and the way the characters interact to keep the premise similar, and it hasn't worked. Allan living there is still far fetched and the character balance is way off. Jake has been turned into an irrelevancy now too although tbf that happened a few seasons ago.

I think the writers know all this too which is why they spent the last episode developing the characters of the girlfriends and inventing a feud between them; they're trying to bridge the gap with new characters.

There isn't a single Archer episode that isn't hilarious. Can't stress enough how funny this show is.

    Anyone watch Alcatraz?

I have the first episode to watch on foxtel, as I recorded it.

    Thoughts on it?
