League v Union stuff

The other thing not being mentioned here is the speed of the game. I'm not talking about how quickly one phase turns into another. I'm talking about the general pace of the man in possession and the players trying to tackle him. RL is played at a far greater pace IMO. It's quite clear we have the better athletes.

The other thing not being mentioned here is the intelligence of the players. I'm not talking about how quickly one can complete the Telegraph's sudoku. I'm talking about the general ineptitude of League players' judgement. It's quite clear League players are better able to get a dog to simulate fellatio on them.

    :shocking:.............

You say that like it's a bad thing.

run a few metres, get tackled.
    repeat countless times.

  7. Speirz DG Speirs

Actually, it's not countless. They're sets of six.:p

    That's union.

6 tackle sets in league mean more exciting play, rather than just mindless hit ups followed by a field goal/kick/penalty for something that no one ever seems to understand.

I don't think there was any simulation involved

Obviously, I was being tongue in cheek as your post was a massive generalisation. I'd say you're probably not wrong on - on average, but there's some real speedsters out there in Union as well as League. But then the bar for technical requirements for Union is just as clearly set much higher, so it really depends what you want from your game.

I would like to see any league player play prop or lock in union. That would be quite hilarious

  12. Speirz DG Speirs

In the same way it'd be hilarious to watch any union player at hooker or centre in league.

League has no need for the skill sets that a front rower or lock needs for the set piece, so that's fairly obvious. On the flip side, I'm not sure how a top Union prop would take to League! I wouldn't mind seeing some of the larger quicks in League take to the Wing in Union though.

    Also - Brad Thorn?

I don't see why. There have been plenty of players switch codes and play centre successfully, e.g, Craig Innis. Can't think of any hookers but there are plenty of union players who would be great hookers. Piri Weepu for one

:pissed: Damn you. I'm on your side FFS! ;)

Agreed. Talking more specifically, I don't think there is any equivalent in Union that comes close to the frantic pace of say, State Of Origin. Then again, we have nothing even remotely resembling technical scrummaging skill in League.

I can't imagine any union scrum-half being up to making 40 tackles a game in the forwards. As for the centres, now that league plays left and right and union still uses inside and outside, it's a completely different structure in both defence and attack.

Haha. I have no side! I like both!!! And AFL!

    Just not NFL.

  19. Tartmaster AJ James

    NFLs alright.

Union does have games like that, though they're much rarer and much, much less predictable as to when you'll see one.
