So in the CPL thread we were congratulating Athlai's pesterness in bringing CPL back. I then decided to be a bit of a smartass and ask if any CricSim/Bannerman Shield comeback was on the cards.... and then Cribb was like: So some progress potentially upcoming, but we have the problem of a lack of usership base. Some rough numbers of members that we can tap into: * The 24 currently playing CPL * About 10 or so guys on CW (plus a few that could be recruited to the new site as well as StephenZA + GAS) * There's still 10-15 or so diehards who are regularly browsing CS but aren't involved in CPL. That probably gives us 40 *possible* members, but I think we probably need more. Worse a lot of them aren't too active and we lack the shitty teenage posters that can produce the lolz. This discussion took place a bit in the CPL thread but think it applies a bit more here, so discussing CS's future should probably go here. Probably won't happen for a few months anyway if it does happen, which might mean a few guys who generally come here for RL discussion will browse the forum more.
Yeah the average member age being late 20s/in the 30s now would make the whole environment a bit different. As Phlegm suggested, think the best idea would be to have a kind of separate franchise comp of four or five teams for now with the currently active members. Maybe have one FC comp and one T20 comp or something. Think it could renew activity/interest without hurting the history of the historic teams/players. Then can re-access after that and see if a proper S13 is ever possible.
Someone needs to volunteer to do some of the shit that makes the summing part tedious. Whether that’s just setting up the match threads or doing any missing line-ups. Small things like that’d make a big difference.
Add 20 or so 'legends' (such as club founders, top players who don't post any more) to the active people list that morgie thinks we can get, and put everyone into an IPL style draft, with 4 teams and maybe co-captains for each team and a budget to play with to create 4 18 player teams that compete in a double round robin then finals comp, with combined second XI matches so everyone gets a go
Ashwell and I would not make a good team. I suspect my blood pressure would rise dangerously were I to undertake such an endeavour.
I didn't sign a contract. I could probably do the line-ups as a neutral for any teams that don't have a selector, or until a selector returns.
My general attitude is if you build it they will come. Waiting around for more and more people is guaranteed to kill the little bit on hype that's happening right now. I would be happy to contribute here but Cribbage has pretty much always said no to these offers as far as I know.
This is mine too. But OTOH, would be hard for people to come back to nothing, which is why a smaller comp might work as we don't need to pester and gamble on a million people coming back. (I guess we do have ways of contacting ex-posters outside of the forums though) I think the bottom line is to start making more social bar/non-league sport threads. In the past the forum survived long breaks, obviously not as long as this one but the problem is there just isn't any activity and the numbers weren't there for ages for even some small forum activities/games. Mafia in particular would be a good start.
You need people coming regularly for Mafia to be viable. When I tried running the Denouncement Mafia II, there just wasn't enough activity. People generally posted their orders, but were on so infrequently, bugger all happened during the day. It was not great. I think you need more regular simming for people to visit with that kind of regularity.
We do have 24 people regularly coming on for the CPL draft now I suppose; Mafia could be worth another go given that.
No-one posts in Pumas. Literally just the two you're apart of, and even the Ravens one is kinda dead as you know.
