Alrighty cunts, put in your winners. I follow 3 jockeys at the moment, Blake Shinn, Tye Angland and Kerrin McEvoy. So I'm at Hawkesbury today Race 1: Lion Couchant -EW Race 2: Niccoco - EW, Clivedon House - EW, Niccoco/Clivedon House/Love Las Vegas - Trifecta Race 4: Mineko - EW
No, but you follow them closely, you can sort of bet on how much better they are than others on similar horses. I definitely bet on stable-jockey combinations rather than specific horse results.
I tend to look at owners, trainers, and where they're trained over the jockey. Unless a particular jockey seems to be on a good day, was happened recently when one of the jockeys place in every race, winning 5 of 7. I'd usually back a Godolphin horse, for example, at Newbury/Newmarket to do well, rather than backing a jockey to do well, even if he's been in form. Especially if the horse is trained in Newmarket or Newbury. I tend to find it doesn't often make a huge difference which jockey is riding, unless there's an obvious gulf in class of one jockey over the others.
And how did he do on his three race days before that? Sort of why I'd only start betting on a jockey if he seems to be having a particularly good day, but I wouldn't base a days betting on a jockey, despite any recent good form they might have had. Obviously could be wrong, but it just doesn't seem logical to do so. Pretty sure there's a website that calculated how much you'd have won (or lost) if you'd put £1 on AP McCoy for every race he'd done, and you'd be £1,743.63 down, and he's the best jockey ever.
Lion Couchant just won paying $20+$6. Fucking spewing at myself. I lost faith in it and only put $5 each way, instead of the $15EW I had it pencilled in for.
Tye Angland did it in race 3 again for me, Willie Heritage paying $12.90+$2.90. Only had 5 each way again.
These guys are top quality jockeys, and the midweek meets are often low quality. Angland has brought home a few $20+ for me.
All over Blake Shin recently. I'll always jump on him if he's on a decent trainers horse, especially Waterhouse. Got on him when he was on Nayeli(?) and won at 61-1. Used to have a lot of time for Tarrant but he's dropped off a bit lately. Hadn't noticed Angland and McEvoy. I'll keep an eye out. Boss has done well for me as well, but he doesn't get many rides these days.
Angland won 2 for me today. I was on him because Shinn only had one race. I pick my jockey for the day. Because I guarantee if you bet on the cunt in 5 races, the one he wins is the one you don't back. If the guys are all on good quality horses, I'll take Shinn, then Angland, then McEvoy.
You're possibly the only person who I've ever heard back jockeys before they've seen them on the day. Clearly it must work for you though. Guess it would if they're much better jockeys than the others. Tbf, I don't really know anything about horse racing down under, except for some late night betting.
I think things must be different there then. Do jockeys have sponsorships/retainers with certain stables/trainers/owners over there? And how far in advance do you know about who they're riding etc.?
No idea. I'm not THAT into my racing, by the sounds of it Julian and Benny would know a lot more. I have the TAB app, and it notifies me when my chosen jockeys/trainers/horses are running.
