Update: I just completed my second step towards the 2027 grand final by doing the in person course. 6 solid hours of rugby league laws with a bunch of 13 year olds who kept asking about what happens when you grab a player's balls. This was a very informative session with a major revelation. It turns out that what Jason Nightingale did was completely legal. When the ball leaves the heel of the foot of the person playing it, it is officially in play and because there were not two markers in position, there's no reason as to why he is not allowed to pick the ball up and run himself. Now don't think that this deterred me from my quest, if anything it made me more inspired to succeed. This Wednesday is my prac assessment where after completion I will be officially a referee in training and referee my first game next Sunday. Shit is getting real. The pay is pretty damn good too. Oh and if you're wondering, Matt Cecchin did not reply to my tweet. Probably too busy blowing whistles.
If there is only 1 marker then he is entitled to do so. It starts from 20 bucks a game when doing 7,8,9 year olds (you do a few games in a day). 10-12 is about 25 bucks then from 13 it goes from 40-60 bucks depending on age group, up until U19's and then 80 bucks a game until you go to A grade which is 105 bucks a game. You get more for finals too.
fuck that beats the hell out of the free can of soft drink and pie I used to get reffing 2x mini/mod games as a 15 yr old
I used to get that being the ball boy at Bathurst every Sunday arvo. I was lucky enough to do a couple of mid-week Panasonic Cup games at Carrington Park too (Parra v Penrith and Sharks v Balmain) - got a free pie & can of coke plus $10 bucks!! Big money for a kid in the early '80's...I was rolling in it.
I tried on the uniform they gave me. A bright yellow shirt that looks like you're a tradie which is tucked into footy shorts. Not going to lie, I look like an absolute twat in it. No wonder the refs cop so much abuse. This will not deter me though.
Unfortunately it did happen. Souths, which will be a hurdle because everyone seems to be a Souths supporter too.
just have it come out from being tucked in early into the game. If they complain explain you were more concerned/focused on ensurimg you were controlling the game correctly
