2013 State of Origin

Looks like EWS got his wish. He hexed Stewart into injury so Hayne could play fullback and it's worked. Brett Stewart is officially out of Game 1. Gone for up to 6 weeks but at least a month.

 

So you'd imagine:

1.Hayne
2.Morris
3.Morris
4.Jennings
5.Merritt/Uate

Personally, I think it's a big blow for NSW. Stewart is by far and away their most dangerous player. His try scoring rate for a fullback is just unparalleled at both club and Origin level. I also think he's just a much more solid and reliable fullback than Hayne.

By "suits" you mean "compensates for", right?

 

Hayne had to be fullback if they want Maloney. I'd much rather have Carney and Stewart but what ya gonna do?

I won't be surprised if Hayne fails for a third time to transfer his club ability to the NSW fullback spot. He really didn't offer much in his first two games.

 

Don't think Stewart was NSW's most dangerous player by any measure. I thought he was good in 2012 but all he really offers these days in attack is excellent support play.

 

Nah, can't agree with that. He has a very solid passing game (he's not a ball player but he has a very good pass). Aside from Slater, he's the best linkman fullback in the game IMO. He's also got one of the strongest running games and has actually transferred it to Origin ala his first try in Game 2 last year.

The guy has scored 5 tries in 8 games. That's Darius Boyd/Greg Inglis territory. And he's doing it from fullback. It's all well and good to say Hayne is the more dangerous player (if you think Hayne is) but he hasn't done shit in Origin at fullback. Stewart may not be a creator but he's produced a lot more points for his state than Hayne has.

 

Gordon won't get a look in unfortunately.

 

If Daley picks Ferguson on the wing for NSW then he deserves to be sacked before Game 1.
