    Gee, I wonder why.

    Parker > Johnson.

  3. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

    Overall I agree. Defensively, please...

  4. Alec AD Funkotron

    Obviously not defensively.

Well, I'm trying to make the case that Australia is not so brilliant that we can go into a match without a defensive lock. Thaiday, Bird and Lewis are all ordinary defenders. I'd prefer Parker to Bird at lock because he's a superior defender but I'd much prefer to just play Johnson and leave the attack to the attackers - Bird left, Thaiday right. We've never lost a game to NZ in the last 5 years because we couldn't make ground. We've lost because of stupid errors and an inability to defend said errors. Scott, Gallen and Smith provide more than enough middle-third go-forward IMO.

I don't think that's been our problem, I think it's more that we don't want to win it as much as NZ or whatever. I mean it's not like they don't have defensive issues either.

Don't really see any evidence for this.

How are their defensive issues relevant to ours? We have a far better attack than theirs. If NZ had attacking potency like ours you'd see why I think defence is our problem.

Reed officially playing for UK. Lucky we got the cunt signed up so his price doesn't go up.

  9. Alec AD Funkotron

Exactly, we don't need Johnson to have a chance of winning.

That's the most ridiculous counter-argument. We don't need Parker to have a chance of winning either. Hell we don't even need Thaiday or Myles. Does that mean we shouldn't pick them?

I must be the only one who thinks QLD missed Johnson's defence this year.

I still think both the QLD's and Australia's attitude towards the matches was what made them perform poorly. QLD eventually had a great match in Game 3, when they knew they had to win it....and NZ will always have to determination to win over Australia, seeing as how it's their only real Rep match, whereas for Australia, SoO is much more important.

Our defence overall this series and last was clearly down from years gone by IMO. Not to mention that we even had a defensive capitulation in Game 3 which allowed NSW back into the match despite having a 24 point lead. Even when leading well we looked shaky IMO. This was even more true in the first two matches.

We haven't defended a lead well for ages. We've simply outscored NSW to the point where they couldn't rein in the lead. In all three matches this year we had more than a converted try lead and every time we defended it poorly. When NSW started getting an equal or greater share of the ball, we crumbled.

My point is that the things we did poorly were due to our lack of motivation compared to NSW. That's the most important thing in Origin, and it's how we won back in 06.

  15. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

No doubt. But we had all the motivation in the world in Game 3 and it showed. We were utterly dominant because of our attack which lead to unparalleled field position superiority. And yet we still looked like crap in defence at times. Things like Watmough and Gallen breaking through the middle with ease. Not bloody good enough.

  16. Alec AD Funkotron

Fair enough. I've actually got no problems with Johnson playing lock for QLD, I prefer him to a few of the other semi-regulars in the side.

  17. crowley DA Crowley

Because he deserves to be there, that's rather obvious.

  18. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

    No. He really doesn't.

  19. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

And yet nobody but Manly fans think so.

  20. Magic AJ Parker

I do, was gun in origin 3 too.

I wouldn't pick him in the starting side but if it came down to him and Parker I'd deffo go Stewart for the lock position if Gallen was playing in the front row

Only Qlders want Parker or Johnson. Lets get a neutral opinion on it, Stormer
