Which is better for development? Playing in an U/18 comp or having the opportunity to play senior footy in leagues such as the SANFL or WAFL?
for a minute here I thought this was gonna be about the standard and almost ragequit. It depends on the type of player. For midfielders, sanfl especially. The bodies in there are harder than afl and the game is far more inside and contested so the players get the experience of being 'small' and having to use what they've got in a different way early. For key positioned players I'd probably say the TAC.
Yeah - agreed #arrogance. We don't have any WA lads who watch TAC nor other SA lads so I guess I am. Tigga probably has seen enough SANFL to judge. Obviously for some different methods would suit more. I definitely think the physical nature of the SANFL allows players to enter the system tougher mentally and probably physically too - though I'm not sure of the long term issues. I've never seen the logic in holding back kids from the VFL to play age class - I mean, you don't see kids that are good enough to play AFL held back. The real advantage of the TAC is the specialist coaching and attention from recruiters; it definitely doesn't offer as much from a footy experience point of view.
Yeah, agreed. Drafting out of the SANFL and WAFL you know guys are ready for senior footy, where as TAC Cup kids can be hit and miss.
I think the SANFL and WAFL are much better in terms of a players development, but the TAC Cup is much better for getting a player drafted.
And what I mean about that is to play SANFL seniors you have to beat out a heap of players, whereas making a TAC Cup team is easier and also easier to impress on field.
