He inherited a dud team. Can't do much with that in a season and a half. Needs time. Won't get it though.
Not really, They've had some pretty rotten luck and alot of what is happening now is by decisions made years back. McClean, Maloney, Jurra, MacDonald, Scully and whoever else left Were better than alot of the players remaining. Neede had to cut a heap of average players that had been there too long, and he still has a few left. If he didn't, they'd probs be doing marginally better, but it would just be delaying what's happening now. Injuries to Grimes, Clarke, Dawes, Jack Watts issue, tanking, Jim stynes, sponsorship etc. Melbourne have been really unlucky. It's kind of like how James Hird reaped the benefits of Matthew Knights, and now Bomber Thompson.
Plus GWS/GC raped the talent pool. They fucked up with Rodan and the others. I reckon in a few, few years time, with a some more high picks they'll be mid ladder. They have some ok players to build around. Viney, Toumpas, Terlich, Howe, Grimes, Trengrove, Clarke, Dawes, Hogan, Watts (If he develops) Gawn, Frawley, Jones and whoever else im forgetting.
Dawes was a massive mistake. Gillies, Pedersen, Rodan and Byrnes were all brought in but can't hold a spot in the side. He gave up Stef Martin for unders, probably even got reamed in the Morton trade. Moloney obviously didn't agree with him and took off. If he stays on next year, it's guaranteed Sylvia will leave Frawley would definitely be a 50/50 too. Plus the treatment of Jack Watts has been horrendous.
Yeah they've got some decent players. Gerard Healy put up a team continuing their best 15 odd players and it was decent. But they shouldn't be this bad.
Clark, Dawes and Hogan up there plus Howe and Watts potentially. They'd have too many star kpf's when they obviously lack midfield depth.
I ask because -Would he of gone the last draft, to which Melbourne finished last (May have to factor in GWS/GC W/L and further %) -Or would he have gone a year earlier, with whatever it is that makes them ineligible to play for a year?
