Should penalty goals be changed from 3 to 2 points

This is definitely true, changing it to 2 points will see a complete blow out in infringements. Giving the opposition anything more than 3-4+ shots at goal right now can hand the game over to them. But if you change it to two points you can probably get away with 6+. That'd be nuts.

That's easily solved by referees giving a warning, then sending a player off for repeated deliberate infringements isn't it?

Then there'd be the fact that teams would just keep going for the try, rather than taking the 2 if they were in a genuinely attacking position.

I would rather watch rugby than league and the two point penalty etc might stack up.

If it creates more attacking rugby that is great to watch then it's a no brainer...

Also as long as they police infringements well to prevent an increase in fouls it should work fine.

I think you're thinking of this like league where the infringements are a bit clearer. The grey line in Union is much larger.

Should someone be carded for a single offense of holding on to the ball in Union? Probably not. Will we see a lot more of it if 2 point penalties were around? Definitely. I think it would utterly devastate the ruck.

The grey area of union rules is my biggest gripe about penalties being worth 3, it seems that in just about any ruck there are a couple of things that either side could get pinged for, so the referee rolls the dice, decides to call it clearing out from the side rather than not releasing and calls it to the attacking team and they're rewarded with 60% of a try.

On the flip side if you made penalty goals worth three points in league you wouldn't be getting fuck all penalties.

Why not just make 10 louder?
