Shagger (Abra) defeated Captain (Totodile) Not even a contest, Abra was faster with more raw damage. A lucky crit took 85% of Abra's HP and even that wasn't enough.
Hunter (Spheal) defeated Mousey (Poliwag) A very, very slow battle but Hunter won easily. The fact Poliwag could only deal 4% of Spheals HP in damage per turn and only had 1 move didn't help.
Skippos (Torkoal) defeated Baxter (Aron) Torkoals White Smoke meant everything in this fight. His Ember dealt more damage than the Non-STAB Mud Slap and the fact his accuracy couldn't be lowered got him there in the end. May have been a totally different story if he'd had a different ability.
AVA (Growlithe) defeated Rocks (Heracross) Intimidate gave Growlithe the edge here, even if Heracross survived the 3HKO on 1hp. Narrow win, but nontheless a win.
Reframe (Chimchar) defeated BoshtrichBurger (Bulbasaur) By far the best battle so far. Bulbasaur gets lucky and looks like winning after an early critical off tackle, only for Chimchar to win via desperation, going for an extra leer and hoping for a crit, which came immediately. Then it came down to speed, which Chimchar had all along to put in the final blow. That's all for now folks. We're out of confirmed rivals, but don't fear. There's going to be plenty more coming this afternoon when I'm done working and randomise everyone else's rivals.
I tried both ways to see if it played out better with Leer, it doesn't. The critical was with Leer, and the other way you get horribly outdamaged. @Rocks, I may have Bastard GM'ed you there by complete accident. I think it may have been the right move this early to give him a chance though, your stats way outmatch his. No way it's your last chance of beating your rival though, team composition will become very relevant and even then, Heracross could crush him later with Reversal sweeping/other fighting moves. And TM's may well become available, which will also help.
Heef Ketchum (Swablu) defeated Howe (Numel) Mr Ketchum got very lucky here, getting two critical hits to win a matchup that he would have definitely lost otherwise, with Numel inflicting more damage than him. Despite this, the win looked comfortable enough, with Swablu surviving on nearly a quarter of its's HP.
