NZ Crowd too hot

The large crowd at Eden Park for last Sunday's Warriors-Manly match might have been partly to blame for a series of skydivers landing awkwardly, with one breaking his leg. Dene Richardson, who was one of eight skydivers involved in a half-time leap at the season opener in Auckland, said the heat of the crowd combined with cooler air and southerly winds created a downdraft that left fans gasping as the jumpers hit the ground heavily. ''It was like a vortex when you came on top of the stadium - like a big 'suck down' of dead air that pulls you down to the ground,'' Richardson said. ''The mixture of that swirling around; you get all sorts of mayhem. It's quite horrific.'' The fourth skydiver to land, Graeme Bull, who broke his thigh bone, can be seen slamming into the ground in amateur footage posted on YouTube.
