Lockyer The Next Immortal

    I don't think you can say he mastered playing the role of organising halfback. He certainly wasn't doing it at rep level as he was for Brisbane.

    When was Lockyer the chief organiser in the QLD team?

    Don't ask me to back my claims, because I can't go and watch a heap of old Origin games but it's just how I thought it went.

    He played a fair bit of first receiver and called the plays on the right but he wasn't controlling the team/forwards around the park. Smith is/was the chief organiser imo. And Thurston secondarily. Thurston played a lot more like a traditional halfback than Lockyer ever did - much more on both sides of the ruck. I think it's quite different from the way he played for Brisbane.
