Richmond kick off their second season with a 24 point win over the Bombers in the first round of the NAB Cup in a fairly good display. Tom Hawkins stole the spotlight on his debut for Richmond, racking up 30 possessions and kicking 6.8 - could've easily had 10 if he kicked straighter. Joel Selwood also picked up 27 disposals on debut for us. I also drafted an 18 year old by the name of Desmond Amis as a third-round pick as a key position forward. Didn't expect much but his overall rating is 73 and he plays centre-half forward or ruck - he had 14 touches from 41 minutes of gameplay on debut, hugely promising signs.
I actually decided to play with Richmond too. No trades or anything though, so I have their original team. Obviously a lot of the stats for each player are off, so some players who would be in the Tigers best 22, will not be playing.. NAB Cup Round 1 Versed the Kangaroos in the first round of the NAB Cup. The Tigers started well, kicking 5.6 to 4.3 in the first quarter. However, it was a different story in the 2nd quarter, with the Kangaroos kicking 5 goals to 1, and taking a 63-43 half-time lead. After the half-time break, the Tigers tried to keep the Kangas at bay, but struggled, and were down by 31 points at the last change. The Tigers and Kangaroos both kicked 3 goals in the last quarter, and the Roos ran home 29 point winners. Yeah, looks like those are the ones. Anyway, Tom Scully managed to tear his ACL, gone for the season.. wonderful for his development. Went down by 3 points to Hawthorn as well in the semi-final of the pre-season cup, not too fussed about that. However, the first game of the league we are up against my beloved Dees... however we were far too good for them early, had a good lead up at three quarter time and it was smooth sailing until the last quarter, where they kicked six goals straight to our two points.. we ended up losing by a single point. There goes my motivation.
Happy in patches of that game. Obviously the 2nd and last quarters let us down massively. I think we should real potential though, almost matching it the whole way with a team that should finish in the top 4.
AROUND THE GROUNDS I've decided I'll post the competition stat leaders every 5,6 or 7 games just to keep it fairly updated. I will also post the ladder every 2 or 3 games. In that time, I'll post the brownlow odds, but I'll stop at around round 15, to build a little bit of suspense.
