Struggling like hell after being plagued with injuries. Susaeta and Mario Suarez being out have hurt a lot. Pablo Hernandez then picked up an injury and we're on a four game losing streak. Last 3 games have been Man Utd, Arsenal and Liverpool. That certainly didn't fucking help.

Haha Frizzed, are you playing overload?

  5. McGrath JE McGrath

New patch seems to have fixed some of the minor annoyances that made me rage quit the game. Will give it another game.

    Control/Balanced.

Do you fellas have a preferred passing style? Mostly short or mostly direct? Or do you set individual passing instructions for everyone and go default?

  8. SmellyStuff MP Chung

Ah ok, just thought you were playing overload looking at the 8 players in the box

  9. Frizzed WC Welker

Short for most, with some having individual instructions.

It's a free kick, but I thought it would be a pen.

  10. Mariner CL Warrington

    Short until I start losing.

Find I get raped when I play short against noticeably stronger teams. Might just be poor tactics though, obviously.

  12. Frizzed WC Welker

Stronger teams are probably pressing harder and pushing higher up the pitch and cutting down your players passing options.

  13. Teacups CJ Evans

Do you tend to go mixed/more direct against stronger teams?

Really need a winning tactic right now. Went well in the second season and finished 7th but struggling at 14th in season 3 after 20 odd games. Injuries don't help but I still have quality to be finishing midtable.

    I use a mixed system.

In the team tactics section I have it set to short and then I adjust some certain players.

    Some examples:
I generally set inside forwards to have even shorter passing to hopefully encourage them to run with the ball even more.

I generally set defensive mids to have a longer passing range to hopefully encourage them to link up with attacking players more easily as I find that shorter passing with them results in a lot of back passing or passing sideways to fullbacks.

I generally set strikers to have a shorter range.

Shit like that really, but it all depends on the rest of the tactic etc.

Also my thoughts on how shit works may not be exactly correct, but I seem to get results anyways, so yea. :p

Cheers, I'll give it a try. Things can't possibly get any worse. :p

I just assumed that when you set a passing style of say "Mostly Short", then they override their individual instructions or something? Is that incorrect? Do individual settings always matter or just when you set the passing style on "Default"?

  16. Frizzed WC Welker

As far as I know, individual instructions override team instructions.

I think there's other guys here that more knowledgeable than me though and might have some better answers, Nova in particular.

Creative freedom would also impact instructions.

Interesting. Cheers for that. I'll give a try and see how it goes. I seem to have very different individual instructions. I.e. my defensive mids have a short passing style so they can lay it for a more creative player to player a killer long ball or through pass. I have wide players with poor passing but good crossing abilities set to direct.

I have my wide players, Pablo Hernandez and Marin set to wingers at the moment but will change them to inside forwards and change their passing styles to short. Right now, Marin is on direct as he's a shit passer and Hernandez is on mixed. Will probably play a 3 man CM of Henriksen (A), Taïder/Michu (S) and Zuculini/Mario Suarez (D).

I play pretty much everyone with short passing, regardless of my opposition. I find that I regularly dominate possession even against teams like United, Arsenal and City. I don't mind my defensive mids playing short sideways/backpasses because all my fullbacks have good dribbling, crossing and passing anyway. My centre backs all have good creativity, composure and passing too so I generally set their passing to short too. I play with a suicidally high back line too

I don't mind my defensive mids laying it off either, I just like to see them pick out a player further up the pitch every now and then.

Direct passing doesn't just mean hoof it up the pitch every time the player gets the ball, it just means he'll try longer passes every now and then but he'll still lay it off short if there are no options.
