Grew up in country NSW, as a pretty young kid through no reason but my own taste and exposure to it, my favourite artists were nearly all Aussie bands, I listened to a lot of Silverchair, Grinspoon, Powderfinger who were my favourites, others like The Living End and Jet to an extent, but I grew a pretty significant appreciation for this sort of music early doors.

More recently i've started to listen to stuff a bit older like Paul Kelly, fucking love a bit of Slim Dusty being from Tamworth as well as stuff like Neil Murray's Good Light in Broome.

So my thought process, was for people like Benny Julian etc to spin a yarn about their favourite Aussie songs and to throw them up to everyone on here to listen to, I feel like our music industry is criminally underrated locally and that our very good stuff is underappreciated

Definitely I forgot to talk about how much I love 80s and 90s Aussie rock as well. Great chat MASTERS.

I genuinely reckon my favourite cover band moment was at a pub on the Central Coast and they said Throw your arms around me by Hunters and Collectors is one of the only songs in history to not be anything resembling a hit but becoming a classic.

1990 through 2005ish will forever be my favourite time in Aussie music. Nothing can compare these days because even if the music is good, it's not going to have an effect on who I am like it did when I was growing up. The first album I bought with my own money was The Living End's debut on the first day it came out. Second Solution is probably my favourite song off that album but every song was really good.

My first festival was the '06 Big Day Out which was fucking awesome. Magic Dirt absolutely killed it and showed up some of the bigger bands on the main stage. They did this pretty awesome jam that went for about ten minutes. They're just loud when they're live and I love it.

Something for Kate is probably my favourite Aussie band. They've evolved their sound over the years and I've enjoyed every album they've released. Met Paul Dempsey in a Maccas too and he was a good bloke. Here's a couple of songs just because. Captain. Jerry, Stand Up.

Will post about one of the undeservedly forgotten bands from the 90s when I get the time. They're fucking awesome and no one knows so we'll have to have a chat about it.

When they opened for powder finger in 2010 they were genuinely entertaining

Didn't realise musical instruments had been discovered down there. Fair play to you guys.

Harsh GIMH. Personally I'm a huge fan of AC/DC and the Bee Gees, really showed the world what Australian culture was all about..... claiming British castoffs and claiming them as their own...

    This, so much this.

Maybe its because of my exposure but i can't think of the last aussie band i fell in love with like i did with The Living End. Actually, probably Tame Impala

Abos mightn't have invented a wheel but they knew how to cut a tree into a didgeridoo and clap sticks together

    VIOLENT SOHO

I seem to have a type when it comes to aussie bands, AC/DC, Airbourne, Wolfmother. But it is hard t find aussie stuff in the local hmv lol

Lack of Crowded House mentions so far. Crowded House is one of my favourite all time bands regardless of nationality and, even if the Finn brothers are Kiwis, they're Australian.

Some other good shouts like INXS, Paul Kelly, The Living End etc. We've also got some other old gems like Richard Clapton
