Brisbane Broncos thread on how to lose a GI and a Lock and a semi final

He can be a good player, as he showed at the Storm. But he can be complete garbage, as he has been for several years. Hopefully Bennett gets him back to being a high quality NRL player.

tigs would have to be paying at least 50% of his contract imo

    Fuckin hope so.

The true cost of Blair will be interesting considering we're already paying a large portion of Kennedys Roosters contract. We'd best have gotten him cheap.

Broncos can't afford to pay him what Tigs did, they'd have to be footing a partion.

The more I ink about it, the happier I am about the Blair signing tbh.

Our pack is actually quite balanced now, which is something I was concerned about when Hannant and Kennedy left. We would have been in a bit of strife imo if we had to start either Garbutt or Gavaet while having a Wallace or Dodds on the bench.

However, one concern of mine is having our gun forwards from the 20s being pushed back in the pecking order. We lost Tariq a few years ago for the same reasons.

tariq was at the time a winger at brisbane norths

If we are dumping Kennedy, and paying off part his contract just for Blair, it's fucking retarded.

Get rid of a piece of shit, just to sign another one. Should have just stuck with Kennedy if that was the case.

    AWTA.

However id hope the reason its occurred is because roosters took just as much of the kennedy contract as blair is being paid via Broncos next season. At least its still overs but Blair > Kennedy imo plus Blairs next two would be hopefully negotiated at much less than his current money.

if both the above are true - great signing esp. if u are using TPA to cover the bloated contract this season

I find this very unlikely; Kennedy is on minimum wage at the Roosters and the Tigers refused to release Blair unconditionally (ie. they negotiated with Brisbane as to how much they'd pay of his contract).

Blair is better than Kennedy so it'd be an upgrade if they weren't paying any more, but I'm almost positive they will be.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if it adds up to being like 300K more, counting his salary and whatever we still pay for Kennedy. Just not fucking worth it.

I did originally agree with you as I share your pov but im hoping im wrong as i described

He primarily played Prop for our 20s side in 2010 (wining POTY), then made his debut in rd 2 2011 for the Cows. I was so keen for him to come into the top grade for us :|

After signing Boyd and having to pay wages to Barba and Kennedy I cant see how we can have anything left over to support the lion's share of Blair's deal.

I guess we have Alf back to do a Gee.

The worst thing is that it's a 3 year contract. I could handle 1 year, but we have 2 very promising front rowers coming through (Molo and Ofahangue) and a promising lock (Arrow). For a club that usually prides itself from building from within, this is strange.

  16. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

His numbrs in the 20's were bullshit.

  17. jazman84 JM Eightyfour

I'm assuming you are referring to Tariq, and yes they were. He played 80 mins and would make 200m regularly.

Molo and Ofahangue also run for huge metres, they aren't white though.

I think Bennett felt (as I did) that the final piece of the puzzle was an established middle third player, which is exactly what Blair is.

As for the blokes competing with Molo/Ofahangue: Garbutt was signed by Griffin before he got the boot and is on about 1/2 of what Hannant and Kennedy were on. Gavet is indeed a Bennett signing though I doubt he would be on too much. This leads me to believe that Bennett is happy to hold onto Garbutt and see how he goes seeing he isn't swallowing too much of our cap, while holding onto the blokes you've mentioned in the event Garbutt/Gavet shunt it.

I'd really like see the Broncos be able to adopt a similar attacking structure to the Bulldogs next season where necessary.

I'd have McGuire up the guts with Parker and Blair on either side of the ruck allowing us to have 2 pseudo-ballplaying forwards. They'll be afforded options like Glenn/Oates/Gillett on the edges running lines or in Thaiday's case; finding isolated defenders. We'd also have the option of going out the back to Boyd/Hodges/Reed/Hunt/Milford.

This structure could really suit Hunt and Milford imo, as Milford would be more apt at running at 2nd/3rd receiver that 1st at this stage, and Hunt has shown to be most effective when attacking a confined edge rather than a more open one.

Ofahengaue's numbers in the U20s were excellent too this year. I think he might have topped metres made for a forward comp wide?

Was arguably the best player for Australia in that recent U20s match too.
