I play heaps of indie games and skip lots of triple AAAs, so yeah, publisher and marketing doesn't affect me as much. I just wanted to gauge whether there's something to the gameplay that I'm missing that makes this a better card game than all the others out there, but judging by your response that's probably a no.
It's a more coherent card game than pretty much any other because it's so simplistic. 30 cards, easy to understand energy cost, not as "pay to win" as most card games are though obviously still affected. I still think the game suffers from balance but at the competitive-ish level what card game doesn't? The fact that any fairly competent card player can make a cheap deck with any of the player types and gain 15 ranks with it means that the game is fairly easy to get into. You're not going to get absolutely smashed by imbalance in every other game.
I've got no previous ties to blizzard, but nah I wouldn't be playing this if it hadn't had the publicity it has had. Same with LoL.
Downloading ATM, any tips for starting off? I play a lot of MTG still so should figure it out quickly enough, what's a strong deck to go for?
Who programs these AIs. Watching them burn a creature, attack it leaving it on 1hp (with a 1/4 that hasn't attacked) and then use a 3 mana killspell on it is cringeworthy.
The point is that it's impossible to lose. It's just for people who have no idea how card games work. And it's a way whereby they can justify giving new players starting gold to get a pack, and get addicted to opening them
Unlocked all the opponents and made my deck, what would you recommend to do now (Especially with gold.) Arena, buy packs, what?
Level up all classes to 10, so all of the basic cards are unlocked (you'll get 100 gold for doing it for every class and 1 free pack for getting level 1 for the first class you do it with). Then beat every class in practice mode on expert and you'll get 100 gold for that. In my opinion, I would spend gold on packs first, but it's entirely up to you what you do with your gold. Arena is fun, but would recommend more practice before getting into it because of the 150 gold price for entry.
Also, if you have an iPad, you can download Hearthstone from the Appstore for free. Playing a game on the iPad (even against bots) will give you a free pack.
It's immediately apparant everyone has way better decks than me. Just lost off a horrible misplay by me too. Forgot if I selected my 9/5 thing it had Haste for a kill with Tracking.
Yeah Hunter is pretty strong. You can make a good deck around cheap cards for that. Unleash the Hounds plus any beast would be fine really. I wish you could play ranked by deck. I'd say my rogue is rank 7-10, my. hunter 8-10 a few others around 10-12 and stuff like Warlock and Warrior would be 18. I just ended up turning all their good stuff to dust. Arena is how I started as it's fun and would be good for a seasoned MTG player. You'll get some cards out of it too.
