After Heath's idea for SR I thought it'd be interesting to see the thoughts of those on whether we should have offseason training of our own. My thoughts on it are mixed. It'd allow people to maybe add a secondary position, or improve their three point shot etc, but I don't want to do something without thinking it through as their could be plenty of problems (some players can't actually get a secondary position). Just thought I'd ask your opinions on it. It'd be pretty limited, but I think it'd be a nice addition and allow people to work on an aspect of their player like someone could in real life. So, thoughts?
I like the the 2nd position thing. Would love to be able to play Welker at SG and Tart at PG. Also improving on the skills would be gun. Maybe like x-skill points for x-[insert something fair here]. Likes games, or minutes played or if they played well, how well etc.
So, if you train an aspect of your game, another one goes down correspondingly? I don't think you should have training provide an overall net gain, else guys that have gone inactive for a season or new signups will be at a major disadvantage. I wouldn't take advantage of training, I suspect, as I'd have no idea what I should/shouldn't be training.
Yeah, teams will have about 8 players each this season so people will be playing out of position at some stage and a heap were last season too (Welker played a lot of minutes at SG for example), so I'd like to give people the option. I think I'll do it similar to the regos and allocate people 10 points to add on to something or take a second position.
But thats realistic, a rookie won't enter the league and be as good as the LeBron's/Kobe's etc. Well it happens once a decade. Also if you have offseason training theres no reason why an aspect of your game goes down. You should be improve all the key parts of the position and role you play. Ok, maybe for a PG their Blocking or Low post skill drops but really should by much
Hmm, good point I guess. I was planning to just allow the improvement and overall gain. What I'm suggesting though wouldn't increase a players ability much at all though. It'd be lucky to boost them a single rating point.
moving people to PG is so ftl. You are either ave skills transferable to PG or you don't. you can't learn it in an offseason imo. Like moving a non rebounding PF to C it just doesn't transfer over in an offseason.
I like the idea of a second position, I don't think that would be too advantageous or anything like that, plus it's realistic. As for attributes, I think it should be a limited selection of attributes that you can train up and also pair them with another attribute that goes down ? Say for example you train up your dunk ability by 5 points, your 3 point ability goes down by 5 points or something similar.
Yeah, this is what I meant by it'd be limited. I'd definitely have rules in there that stop people becoming something they shouldn't. It's also why I'm asking you guys your thoughts on it. Someone like Cambridge couldn't become a combo guard for example. He's a pass first PG and a poor shooter but to not allow him to change and allow someone like Rego or Alessi who are pretty much already combo guards would be unfair.
Yeah, agree with this. I get what Eggman's saying - that training rewards interest in the sim but if post counts ever come in for this (if they're not already factored in?) then you'll be doubly rewarded/penalised for activity
As the founding member of BSPA I'd like to get some clarification on whether players will get higher health benefits due to the proposed increase in off season training ?
Off-season training is purely optional and therefore all profits from the increased attendance because of more talented players will go into the pocket of the BBallSim Commissioner.
Anything that involves my profit will be dealt with with the utmost urgency and is the number one priority of BBallSim.
I think it's a good idea tbh. Makes it far more realistic, helps cater to club and provincial needs, and adds to the sim as a whole.
Sif you would Bench an All-Star PG and the number 1 assist machine in the whole BBSim championship, you gots to be kidding yourself. I came into the thread ready to call this the Hungry Jacks of sims, but I saw you admit it in your OP so I am at a loss for a responce. Especially as I can't benifit from tis apparently.
