US Clay Court Championships - First Round

The tournament with probably the longest name on the CSWT calendar has gotten underway, and there's no other place to start than a first on the tour - a win for Shane Masters. Yes, you are reading this correctly, and the victim of such a humiliating defeat was Lucas Schaw. His absolute inability to serve helped avoid Masters' inability to return, and the rest is history. Though falling to the floor and doing five laps of honour did seem a tad excessive. Samuel Vimes also made it through, looking very comfortable in his three set victory over John Anraad. First seed and home favourite Alistair Son set up his quarter final clash with Vimes to much admiration, conceding only two games to Aby Dforum in the entire match. The only other home entrant, Samuel Yates made it through but escaped a close call in the first set, being 3-0 down in the tiebreaker. He came back to take it 7-4, and made a much better job in the second to book his match against Masters tomorrow. Newcomer to the tour Eddie Morris ran through Charlie Downes in straight sets, but the win of the day goes to either Bosh Burger or Clayton Evans. Both were involved in thrilling matches that went to sudden death games at the end, and really either of these two have a shot at the very least the semis after making it through a tough first round.
