Probably only have so many qualifier spots on offer in the main draw, and introduce another qualifying round if necessary.

    Singles Qualifiers

The Australian Open has got underway with qualifying for the singles draw, with the opening match being contested between Truman Lee and Ivan Ryabovol. The pair both had success in the two doubles tournaments last week, and their encounter this week was a close one, with Ryabovol securing his place in the first round after five sets. Ryabovol took the first set easily, but Lee came back with a flurry of aces and brilliant serving to take the next two without dropping a single point on serve in the second set. In the third, errors started to creep back into Lee's game, although he did hold out in the third. The game started to sway into the path of the Queenslander in the fourth, when he came back from a break down to force a fifth and final set. By that time though, Lee's stamina looked to have failed him, and he could barely compete at the end playing sloppy shots all the time. Fellow Queenslander Charlie Downes was thrashed and humiliated in straight sets by Rob Cribb, but not as much as Jake Howe was at the hands of Ritwick Chowdhuri (As if losing wasn't embarrassing enough). Howe won just one game in the entire match to make TennisSim history for the worst loss ever. Not even Shane Masters lost by that much, although if you ignore the result, it was pretty bad when you find out that he got aced 78 times by Andrew James. A surprise was on the cards on the outer courts when Samuel Vimes went down in three to newcomer Marcuss Deane, the Englishman hitting so many winners in the match, it certainly more than made up for is high error strategy.
