Yeah was gonna say that I reckon I'll become a doubles specialist. Will probably be more suited to clay/grass courts as well.

Auckland: First Round - Top Half

Some good action on the first day of the Heineken Open as number one seed Luka Popovic made it through in straight sets against Joshua Ritchie. After being crushed in the first set, Ritchie battled back from a break down to force a tiebreak in the second before being beaten out. At a home event, Ritchie would have wanted more, but surely he can do better in next week's Grand Slam. A mild upset ensued on court #1, where powerhouse Heath Davis went down in three to Queenslander Reagan Wheelson. After cruising the first set, Davis lost the set in a tiebreak that was not deserved on Davis' good play up to that point. He then got broken right at the end of the final set, again against the run of play after Wheelson just surviving against a barrage of aggressive serving and excellent passing shots. Whether Wheelson can repeat a shock against Popovic in the quarters remains to be seen. In the other matches here today, Wes Welker skillfully defeated home favourite Rego Hutchinson to set up a quarter final tie with Aaron O'Neill, who made it through his effective bye in Shane Masters uninjured to progress.

    Results
Luka Popovic def Joshua Ritchie 6-1, 7-6 (7-3)
    Reagan Wheelson def Heath Davis 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 8-6
    Wes Welker def Rego Hutchinson 6-1, 6-7 (2-7), 6-3
    Aaron O'Neill def Shane Masters 6-1, 6-1

Sydney: First Round - Top Half
Today's match of the day at Sydney took us to centre court, where the Irish/Australian/French/Spanish/Victorian/Celtic/14 other nationalities Siege Morgan made the most of his powerful serve to beat youngster Henry Daman, but he needed two tiebreaks to do so. Morgan started off brightly, firing aces at every opportunity on serve, but when he didn't do so at times it didn't look good. He was shaky in open play, making many more errors than his opponent. In fact, Daman won more points than Morgan, he was unlucky to go out. Elsewhere, Blake Quilty's almost literal inability to serve (0% FS, 23% SS, 41 double faults) saw him go down against Samuel Yates. Though Quilty did win a few games, my sources don't tell me if this was just both players breaking each other repeatedly (most likely) or that Quilty actually retained serve (come on). Anyhow, it is progress.

    Results
Blake Quilty def by Samuel Yates 6-7 (0-7), 2-6
Henry Daman def by Siege Morgan 6-7 (5-7), 6-7 (5-7)
    Bosh Burger def Chris Raftery 6-3, 6-7 (7-9), 6-2
Oscar Wood def Geraint Martyn 6-4, 6-4
