It's definitely not close to being the best in the game, but Matterson maturing into a gun second rower is good to see. He was so in between positions last year it wasn't funny.

    hmm

I felt as though Easts held in the game pretty well. Canberra should have put them to bed by the 50th minute or so. A couple of bat downs from the left hand edge outside backs and Austin's butchered try kept you in a game that very easily spun out to 30 or so to 6 with 25 to go IMO. I wouldn't be as bullshit positive as Gould has been about it, but I'd be pretty happy with the efforts with some pretty key effort players out. 7 Penalties in a row helped, obviously, but I didn't actually have a problem with the refereeing like heaps of Canberra fans did. I thought Roosters' momentum earned most of those penalties.

Yeah but I think that's why it sucks for them. They held in the game but not because they were playing particularly well.

You can look at it that way but you can also look at it in the way that we did a hell of a lot better than we expected. No one thought we were going to win that game and had we made just 30% less errors than we did, we would've won that game. Considering how bad our ball handling was and how much possession Canberra had in the 2nd half, we did quite well.

Also, that penalty that Perenara gave that gave them a 6 point lead was absolutely disgraceful. If someone is making no attempt at getting up quickly to play the ball, you do not penalise someone for being too slow to get up. Then again, everything about Perenara is disgraceful.

Anyway, this Saturday is a much bigger test if we are contenders than last Sunday was.

Winning Grand Finals, Beating Souths and winning on Anzac day.

The only things better than seeing Darius Boyd lose.

    Your pick?

Cronulla, St George and North Qld are all really strong, although you were talking next year which would weaken Cronulla given the age of Gallen and Lewis. Canberra have the best second rowers and would challenge if they could settle on a lock.

Aubusson to centre just doesn't make sense anyway though given who your centres are. I'd probably just bench him if I wanted to play Matterson.

    Skidsy's gone.

    :(

  9. GYR DW Lewis

Look, considering how his story is one of a kind, probably never will see again and how long he has been at the club, he probably deserved a better send off.

In saying that though, I wouldn't want to risk putting him in the team just for a farewell.

What about that kick from Pearce!?!?! Unbelievable that we got away with that win. I don't remember the last time we played that badly let alone play that badly and still win.

  11. Magic AJ Parker

Fuck yeh in terms as difficulty that's up there with the best I've ever seen.

So lucky to get away with the win though, literally no effort or energy for the first 70 minutes. Everything was done half-arsed.

It was one of the best field goals not just because of the position on the field but because it takes fortitude to attempt knowing that you have to strike it well enough to get it over the bar but if it's not straight enough you're probably going to give up a 20m restart which will likely cost you the match.

  13. GYR DW Lewis

Not to mention the fact that he had Munster charging at him as well

Micky Gordon has been such a good signing for us at fullback. I know not many people on here rate him at the back but the position just tests you in so many facets of the game and he just continually comes up big for us.

The lack of that extra ball player is definitely a drain on the team but I really like what Joey Manu and Jake Friend have been doing in attack over the past month of footy. I also really like when Watson comes on at lock.

Saturday will be a really good test for us.

    Paddy and GYR like this.

Will almost defnitely win the comp barring injury for mine.

any news on tupou? casualty ward on nrl.com says he'll be back in wk3 of the finals? he has to be there if they're a chance of beating melbourne imo

    *to be a chance

  19. Magic AJ Parker

Yeh he's been doing full training. Just damaged some scar tissue which is quite normal apparently.

There's part of me that's really confident about Saturday night.

And then I remember we set an all time NRL record for most games won by 6 points or less.

So I'm confident we'll win but probably only by a few points.
