NSW bench is shit, dunno how the rotations will work.

I would have had Finefeuiaki on the right edge, Cotter is trash and should be in the middle. Walsh should be there instead of Mam, and I'd take Purdue ahead of Shiba.

Fair bit of talk about Walsh not being on the Qld bench. Dylan Edwards not being somewhere on the Blues 6-man bench is equally weird imo. He covers Tedesco at fullback, and he covers the wingers. He also covers centre because you can move Koula in, and given Crichton is somewhat injured, it may happen.

I think it's absolutely bizarre that he hasn't been picked at all.

  3. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

Not really. Walsh not being on the bench is strange because Mam is instead. Mam is a useless cunt who has a highlights package of scoring tries setup mostly by Walsh. Walsh is absolutely a better 6&7 than Mam without ever playing the positions.

  4. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Yeah, I mean this is nonsense imo. Mam has 10 try assists this year. What are you talking about?

Mam isn't a useless cunt, in attack at least, but Walsh does provide everything he does, and more. Mam can't even kick, so what good is he as a backup half? If Walker goes down, Munster will have to do all the kicking.

    Grant and Ponga can't kick?

I don't understand the Mam and Walsh comparison at all. If a half goes down, Walsh would be playing fullback and Ponga goes to the halves. What are we talking about here...I get that Walsh plays a fair bit of first receiver but as with Ponga, that doesn't make him a 7.

If we're taking a half back-up the argument should be between Mam and Clifford imo.

Speaking of back-up halves, Mitchell Moses is apparently going to be ruled out due to a hamstring injury. That makes things verrry interesting. Would be a huge loss. Might be out for Game 2 as well.

Mam has had the best ball playing of his career in 2026, for a whopping 9 try assists in 11 games in the current NRL format with regular 30+ scores, and most of these came against rubbish sides.

    Mam is a dud.

Puts him in the same bracket as Walker, Fogarty, Boyd, Katoa, Clifford who are all playing in teams going a lot better than Brisbane. I think if Walsh actually played 6 and had to make 20+ tackles a game instead of his usual 3 or 4, you'd see how silly this line of argument is.

Mam isn't Wally Lewis but he's a lot better than you're making out. He's coverage for the halves, Walsh is not, plain and simple.

It would be hard for Walsh to be much worse than Mam as a defender. Mam averaging 19 tackles a game with 5 misses, probably not including the misses where he is so far out of position they just stroll past him.

Walsh is absolutely cover for the halves for part of a game if theres an injury or chasing points, and he would be much more of an attacking threat than Mam. QLD already have the "fast black fulla supporting breaks" role filled, Mam is surplus.

Watching Moses kind of half ass/Soward his way through games this year for Parra has made me wonder if there's a world where giving him the 7 and Cleary the 6 could be the best way for forward for NSW.

Cleary has looked a bit bored this year for Penrith/has been chancing his hand a bit more instead of the grinding style Penrith have had the last few seasons. I'm wondering if losing that prelim last year changed something in his/Ivans mindset about trying to be more creative/blow teams off the park a bit. I think a mark of it has been the amount lf times Clearys been caught with the ball on tackle 4 this year.

I'm kind of excited to see Strange take the game on at 6 behind Yeo and Cleary. If it doesn't work I'm starting to think a:

    7. Moses/game manager
    6. Cleary license to be a bit of a Thurston

Might be the move, with Yeo bench and Murray starting at lock.

Cleary was elite on the left when he moved to 6 in 23 GF. Won Penrith the game he was so good at it. Moses should absolutely play the dominant 7 in Origin.

Dude, I'm not talking about tackle efficiency. I already know Walsh would be as hopeless if not moreso than Mam in the frontline, in that regard.

I'm saying quadruple his tackle count and see how effective he is in attack with that sort of fatigue. Ponga has all the tools and he couldn't manage it. Got moved back. Hayne had all the tools, couldn't manage it, got moved back. The only bloke who we've seen have success is Lockyer and it took years of persistence. You can't just move a fullback into the halves, and in Origin of all places.

Yeah completely agree with this. Edwards 100% should have been the outside back cover for all points you’ve covered.

I still find it weird how little respect the modern position of wing is given. It's become such a specialist position and requires a very different positional and skill set to centre, the bomb defusal, runs out of trouble etc.

Not to say some centres aren't also great wingers. But if a coach decided to throw his second best 5/8th choice at centre just to fit them in, I feel people would blow up and call it a ridiculous pick, when I'd say the skillset and defensive pattern are much more transferable.

What's this in reference to though...Koula?

Walsh doesn't seem like he'd fatigue easily, he's clearly very fit and full of energy. He wouldn't be playing 5/8th in defence regardless, Ponga would be moved up.

I mean yeah I'll take that first half. Nervous lead but honestly, NSW's defence looks absolute toilet both with and without our second phase. Cobbo's been out of position too deep three times but everything else he's done has been great. Tino's been great.

Walker has been Lewis-like, except that ridiculous pass at the end.

Disgusting scumbag behaviour. Don't expect anything different from Qld.
