Heef made a run up to Auckland last week.

I assume it was a last ditch effort to bribe me with beers so I'd make the new team and splinter the Crabs up.

Thankfully I was crook otherwise his insidious plan may just have worked.

    Victory! a reaction.

Let me make this clear as I clearly wasn't clear enough previously.

There will be 6 teams for next season. If there aren't six teams ready-to-go then the season won't start. This in all likelihood means that each team will need to sign at least 25 players before the season will start.

Suggestions are welcome, but anything outside of the above will be ignored. Cribb's suggestion about having a team of fillers is worse than a bye for me as not only do you have a meaningless game each week, but I have to sim it and it'd be a game I'd have very little interest in.

Can't someone take over the closing club rather than letting it fall completely?

The owner doesn't want to do that, and it's his prerogative. I'm more concerned about whether a 2nd club will collapse at the moment. That'd be a massive blow.

A valid compromise would be to have the successor club be run from someone within the folding club and retain most of the members.

  7. Arheiner SIA Yates

They'd probably have to retain most members regardless tbh.

There's innumerable reasons why it would be a bad idea and I'm not suggesting it's even something that be considered, but if the goal is to have six relatively equal and active teams the best method for achieving that is to collapse all the clubs, find six owners and draft all the players.

EDIT: In hindsight, given that this wouldn't ever happen, this is a bit of a redundant post. Didn't really think that one through there Weeman did you.

I realize you have been firm, but is 6 the requirement, or is it that there be no bye? I'm guessing 25/team, 150 signups will be difficult (even if one could break up all teams without collateral damage). This since quite a few of the S5 signings are probably not around enough to re/sign (let alone be active)

Obviously, I have no inside info about other clubs, but isn't 4 going to be more realistic? Especially since the Reserves Comp is going reasonably well and could easily handle any spillover.

Yeah, definitely agree 4 is more likely than 6 but that'd involve folding a side against their will really.

Six clubs of 25, or the season doesn't start. I'm in no hurry.

The players are out there, it'll be up to the teams to bring them back. The Crabs'll no doubt get 30 anyway

Team owners that want to fold their clubs to just not be cunts and not fold their clubs imo :ninja:

I liked this idea and also proposed it at some stage. Just saying.

If one club is folding at the moment, where are those players likely to go? Because, I mean, you basically have a full club floating around outside the SR framework.

If a new club were to spring up, wouldn't they just end up being roughly analogous to whichever club is folding anyway? Most players seem firmly entrenched at their current clubs, as far as I'm aware. You'd probably have more personnel change than the usual between seasons, but not a massive restructure like every third IPL season.

Actually, there's an interesting idea - find 6 owners and auction the players :ninja:

In all seriousness though, it just sounds like someone who isn't overly tied to a team needs to jump in and effectively take over the folding club under a new name, if nobody within the club is willing to.

Or is there something deeper causing said club to fold, other than the owner cbf?*

*As they have every right to do.

I would imagine that's possibly what's put people off bidding for the franchise.

Well, depends really. If the new club has some sort of theme or it hooks a certain 'social group' as such of the forum then it could be completely different to the folded club, whose players may be equally distributed amongst all five clubs with the other existing four all losing a few to the new one.
