Season 13 Ideas and Suggestions (read the first post or you'll get an infraction)

Given the entire reason the season is longer on paper at the moment is the fact that I decided it was no longer viable for me to sim provincial and club cricket on the same week, simming two rounds of club cricket - which would actually be much more difficult - is a completely stupid suggestion.

Something that was mooted before was promotion and relegation in two divisions of provincial cricket, or a North comp and a South comp; if you only had to play four other sides, the provincial comp would be really short and it's cut the season down a lot. But I don't really want the provincial comp to be that much shorter than the club comp.

    It wasn't a serious suggestion

The only real competition I can think of that has managed to cut down no. of seasons / length of season for the amount of teams in it is the NFL. And that isn't a fair system

If you are determined to make a change on the length, its probably going to have to be unfair on some people, by not having everyone play everyone twice and just have a set amount of total games in a random schedule

or its going to have to take away something you've already added which would be home grounds. And I don't think anyone wants to see that.

Yeah, there are two ways I could cut the BS season in half:
    - Give everyone four home games and four away games against random opposition; you play everyone once
    - Get rid of HGA; you play everyone once at a neutral venue

Neither are good options. I think just having a big long 30+ week season probably works better, even though it seems silly and could potentially cause me to mentally burn out mid-season.

If you did go on for the full season what about giving yourself a scheduled break half way though the season, or do you think you'd then struggle to re start the season up again after it

Just as a throwing ideas about in there sort of way, give someone a T20 sim and let them run a mid season tournament for a month or two

Just have a pre-determined break or two. Then in the first half/third of the season it doesn't feel like the simmage goes on forever and during the breaks there's an incentive not to put it off for another week or so because there's no difference what week it restarts.

Yeah it effectively makes the season longer but people would get why it happens and if you do stick to it then people would appreciate that over what's been happening.

Dang, beaten. The T20 idea is a nice touch though.

    Yeah, that's a good idea.

I like to think that the steps I'm taking to lighten the weekly load - only four game days per week instead of 8 crammed into 7, automating a lot of tedious, tedious manual stuff I have to do behind the scenes that you don't see, etc - will make it less of a chore and make me less likely to want a break in the first place. I hope so anyway. :p

Giving myself a few actual scheduled breaks could, as you said, give me a chance to have a break without then thinking "well we're behind now anyway, I'll do it when I cbf".

I'll step up and sim when you want a break obviously

It's time for an Athlaian takeover of SC cricket.

Athlai won't even commit to simming CPL and he's running it.

Another option - which is not ideal but an option - is to split the BS teams into groups and have them play each other home and away within groups. It'd only work with 10 teams, but that'd be 8 games each and then just have the top 2 in each group play each other to win their group and the division winners play in the BS final.

You could group teams based on the previous season's standings or randomise it.

The issue is, you could not play a certain team for seasons. And it's not exactly the fairest schedule.

With 9 teams, you could just randomly draw a schedule up so each team plays 4 home and 4 away games playing every other team once for a 9 week schedule (including a bye)

As much as it's a nice option it's not really fair. Teams like us could be advantaged by getting very lucky and playing on dustbowls virtually all season. Could skew player development a little too.

  14. Mousey AJ Son

Yeah, but I don't think we're really going to get a fair schedule without playing 18 rounds.

I suppose that's something Cribb or whoever does the schedule could regulate, but it'd be difficult to do as you'd be trying to ensure the competition each dude faces home and away is fair as well as trying to make it so each team faces a range of pitches.

Bribing students is clearly the back up plan.

If people were keen would it be possible to hand over simmage of some competitions to another member?

Yeah this is what came to mind for me.

My concern with having pre-scheduled breaks is that you wouldn't be bothered to restart when you were meant to and then we'd end up with it constantly getting put back. This is not a personal slur on you, it is just a very common thing to happen. It may happen because you feel like you need more of a break and then the schedule becomes lost.

Scheduled breaks sound like a good idea. Even if Cribb's burning out midway he can always look forward to the break which may help.

Just have all the teams play in a neutral venue. That way, they just need to play each other just once. So each team has 8 games each and the season will be over in 2 months or so.
