You blokes can be cunts in these threads so a lot of this thread will be pointless reading if I don't put down some ground rules.

    • This thread is for suggestions relating to the competition structure and anything to do with the simming of cricket. Don't make forum-related suggestions like a new skin or less admins or anything like that in here.
    • This is a serious thread. Serious Cat is present. Don't make joke suggestions or take the piss out of scheduling.
    • I'm not going to reply to all the suggestions; if you make one and I don't respond, don't bump it later.
    • Don't challenge the integrity of the competitions by claiming it's set up to disadvantage you or whatever. If in doubt, ask yourself "Would Emm or Veri make this post?" - and if the answer is yes, don't make the post.
    • You're free to expand on someone else's suggestion, but don't just skip to the end of the thread and make the same suggestion someone else already has.

Has the existence and identity of the 10th club been decided?

First thing: Season 12 will be the final season in which the PCDIY Cup will run. It will be replaced by something pretty similar but it'll have a brand spanking new name and it'll probably run a little differently.

I'm definitely looking at getting a Nullarbor side into the replacement competition for next season, so if you think you can get anyone from South Australia or Western Australia over here between now and next season and that'd be absolutely fantastic. May even give you a SWPR boost or something. South Africa would be nice too but I feel we're probably a little way off from that.

At this stage I'm looking at the Lions playing. If they don't play then we'll be sticking with nine teams. I'll be having a chat to Veri/Incey in the next couple of weeks about their progress.

One thing we need to think about is the scheduling of provincial games.

I never actually manage to get them all done on Friday/Saturday and it creates a delay for the following week every time. I also feel that they're losing relevance by being on at essentially the same time as BS games. I don't really want to have a 36 week long season or whatever though.

One thing I was thinking was having the whole week's lineups due to Monday morning, and not having injuries posted until the end of the week. So for example your Friday-Sunday Round 3 PC lineups would be due on Monday at the same time as the BS lineups, then I could create all the threads at once and give each game a set day. Obviously we couldn't have injuries in between the BS games and the PC games then but it's not a big loss.

I feel at a disadvantage after reading the 4th point, in fact the only way I've been able to bypass that bullet point with this response is by editing my usual posting style in a way as to use words with more than a singular syllable and intentionally spell checking the whole thing as to make it a post that I would probably not usually make.

Did you ever decide what you wanted to do with VCash, I believe before last season you said you wanted clubs to be able to do something with it although you hadn't necessarily come up with something worthwhile.

Yeah, still have no idea with that.

Should we just get some of the usual ones out of the way so you can reject them and put them in the OP

-Weekly changing of home grounds for upcoming game by like +/- 1/2 of pitch catagories
    - T20 Franchise comps with different teams

What was the original idea behind using VCash for the competition? Was it for an incentive?

So a Vcash cap for each team. Teams can use those VCash to lure players to the club? Players can use those Vcash to buy better 'training gear' and hence able to work on strength/endurance (injury prone) etc?

Has that been suggested before? Although that would probably create more player movements which I don't think Rob wants.

The biggest problem I have with the idea of vCash affecting ability is the fact that it'd create a really strange market, whereby the more money you threw at someone, the better they became. So if you had junk pace bowling stocks you could just spend your whole cap on a rubbish fast bowler and he'd suddenly be decent. Which is weird, and totally undesirable.

So that will never ever, ever happen. If clubs had a vCash cap to spend on players, the vCash the players got would not affect their ability/performance.

The rationalization of it making players less injury prone wouldn't necessarily be a terrible one. As in its not something you'd throw at a dire player, you'd prioritize better players but wouldn't want to bung it all on one

Maybe having a budget and choosing to spend certain amounts on team equipment which raising everyone's injury proneness but by no where near as much and spending some on specialist player specific stuff

So clubs decide how much they want to spend on benefits to whatever squad they have but that would leave them with less to use for individuals contracts

    Just spitballing

But you can't throw your whole salary cap at a player to make them better. You have other players who will take up the cap, or will leave to go somewhere else.

Maybe limit how much of the cap can be spent on a player. Real life situation - when someone gets paid really well, it could go to their head and they'll miss training/go out drinking/become more injury prone. The marginal benefit declines the more you pay over a certain limit.

  14. Fungus K Fung

Yeah, maybe have a set amount for each team. The club can either spent that money pulling someone over, or use the money towards getting better equipment? The trade off.

Don't really see how limiting free movement is a good idea at all

  16. Fungus K Fung

    Fair call.

Just having another layer would make it more interesting, but I guess it's much more complicated too.

Not sure where anyones limited the ability of a player to join whatever team they wanted

I think the problem with using vCash is that once it goes from the clubs to the players there's nothing to do with it (other than bet, but that can only get you more vCash). So players who don't care about it will just sign for tuppence to help their club out while the few players who do care about it suddenly dominate transfer talk. It'd become a pretty arbitrary way of splitting up the players and would take over better ways like club culture.

That why I've been trying to come up with ideas to give some more meaning to the vCash. Secondly, the vCash doesn't always have to go from clubs to players. As I suggested previously, you can make it where a club is given a budget, where they can put money into getting equipment training - say the cash can be put towards getting a new bowling machine or something (improves batting overall).

36 would be a drag, but what about 27 weeks? In an 18-week season each S13 week have about 20 5D + 15 1D matches, depending on how you want to work the PCDIY. The bye adds another 5 matches per week. Obviously up to you but I'm not sure that's even possible, streamlined lineups or not.

If you spread 2 weeks' fixtures over 3 weeks - say

    3 BS + 2 HC - midweek 1
    Provincial Champs - weekend 1
    4 BS + 6 HC - midweek 2
    Rossleigh Trophy - weekend 2
    3 BS + 2 HC - midweek 3
Provincial Champs & Rossleigh Trophy - weekend 3

you'd get somewhere between 20 and 25 matches to work each week.

I suggest an odd split because a draw could be designed where every team will get some kind of cricket in each week.

Lineup naming might be the problem here though, you'd probably have to have the Thursday free of cricket in the big simming week because it splits rounds. Then again, if the big simming week were to spill over into the weekend it only takes attention from 1D.
