Had to google it but 87-0 in the SOuth Africa vs Namibia game. Leads credence to Hurricane's idea that they won't get 100 put on them. NZ also beat Japan 83-7.

Sides... even the lower nations I think... have better coaching and I'm not sure we'll see those colossal scores again.

I think we will. Want an avatar bet that we will see a 100+ score, Starris ? ;)

4. Starris ER Starris

An avatar bet?

Not really.

I take it you are up for a change of flag?

5. Fiery GR Smith

Yes I am. Mainly so it's not so similar to the Aussie one.

6. Starris ER Starris

I'm with the 80% that don't want it changed.

I can't believe the government would not first ask the question should we change our flag? Yes/No.
Hell they go just bang the question on the next election it's not something that has to happen now!
I think Key is trying to get a few things in he'll be remembered for.
The next thing he'll go for is the National Anthem!

How long do we need to get a union jack on it then? Forever a colony?

8. Starris ER Starris

The way I look at it is the flag represents our history... our ancestors bleed and died for it... we can't just go round changing the flag to indulge the ego of our prime minister.

Of the four options... three are pretty much the same... none to me really look like flags... of the four options the one you have chosen except with the red would be my choice.
But I will be firmly voting against the change.

For me the Silver Fern is a sporting icon and not something that should necessarily be on our flag... I'm not really too sure where the swirly gig came from but that would be the most ridiculous looking one.

The country has bigger fish to fry than wasting 10s of millions on flags.
A few more doctors and nurses would be better use of it.

Fair enough. That swirly thing is:

The
koru (Māori for "loop") is a spiral shape based on the shape of a new unfurling silver fern frond and symbolizing new life, growth, strength and peace. It is an integral symbol in Māori art, carving and tattoos.

I know what it is I was being sarcastic - not towards you though.

To be honest I haven't looked at the 10,000+ options but I would have thought they would have had less than three quarters of them with the silver fern on them.

Why would ppl come here because of a new flag?

13. Rego RS Hutchinson

They wouldn't come here for the flag but because of it. The amount of exposure NZ is getting about the whole flag change thing is quite big around the world, if it gets changed that will increase a lot more. Media/ advertising really.

14. Starris ER Starris

Yeah but that is no reason to change your flag... it cheapens it imho.

That's just a marketing stint on a global level.

History is more important than that!

15. Rego RS Hutchinson

Oh I agree, I'm just saying why it would/ could increase tourism numbers.

I think the flag change is a complete waste of resources. I'm an advocate for maintaining the status quo but probably not the thread for it.

I think the reason we see less 100+ scores these days is teams just don't bother fielding a 1st string team against such an opposition for obvious reasons. The games are generally a lil messy for that reason to begin with which sees scores just a lil below 100.

17. Squeaks ZW Poole

We have the ability to put 100 on a couple of teams, but it probably won't happen due to there being a whole lot guys who haven't had a lot of game time and secondly haven't had a lot of game time together.

I'm not sure how new flags helps with that, but if you really want something to help with tourism, be done with it and change it to the flag of Mordor. Even more LOTR nerds will come in their droves

There'll be no 100+ scores at this wc. 70 at an absolute push.

19. Fiery GR Smith

Just quoting you on that ;)

20. Hurricane JD Hurricane

Easy - the flag helps with the new zealand brand and new zealand promotional paraphenalia - the current flag does diddly squat for merchandising us as a destination or even a unique country. Tourism New Zealand has a plethora of magazine advertisements etc all over the world in different publications. It just gives another arrow in the quiver of our advertisers to market New Zealand.

On another note most people feel a new flag would help our nationalism and sense of national pride, if true that would just make us a better place to visit by a factor of say 5%. (Making up that percentage.)

Perhaps we should have a flag thread I don't mean to derail this one,

The Canadian flag is quite prevalent as is the US flag in their respective cultures. It could become like that here.

Look I am making all of this up - the benefits of a flag are all intangible and nebulous but some of it will seep into the GDP of the country and $10M is less than the benefits of that I am sure.

Do we have a flag thread - happy to continue this there - and keep the rugby talk here
