Fuck if I were Easts I'd be fucking off SKD and Ferguson and locking down Manu/Mitchell.

If you take out Anzac day we've received 5 penalties in our last 3 games.

    Such a huge disadvantage :(

Really lacking some strike & creativity in the side, hoping we bring Latrell back in against Parra (although he was pretty average for Wyong today).

And fuck it's so shit to lose before a bye week.

Yeah it is quite obvious that our main attacking play has been figured out already. We scored a lot of tries at the start of the season with the pass out the back to Gordon who then cuts it out to Latrell. Now the defenders are rushing in on Gordon before he can get the pass away and he is getting tackled behind the line and it looks terrible.

I still can't get over how Cordner butchered that try.

Every team runs it and defensive lines are finally starting to regularly rush the man out the back. They need to evolve the play as other clubs have tried to. Cowboys play short to the edge runner over and over (too often imo) and then they'll throw it out the back later on.

I'd like to see teams using the fullback or second receiver as the actual decoy a bit more. Same structure but throw in front of both the edge forward and the fullback. Opens the door to intercepts but you can always throw a Wally Lewis over the top pass instead.

Or even just a little kick in behind the winger will stop them from rushing up every time

Pearce can't kick for shit and by the time Keary gets the ball he's already rushed

Yeah. I was gonna say a kick in-behind but that is generally a low percentage play and risks turning over the ball early in the count.

The other problem with predictability is simply the fact that Friend never runs the ball. There's no running threat out of acting half even off the back of a quick play-the-ball. He just shovels. If they're gonna carry Carter, Friend should not be making 50+ tackles a game. He should be making 40 and racking up 4 or 5 runs at least.

Yeah I feel like they experimented with that idea the last couple of years by giving Friend a 20 minute break during the game but didn't produce anything to justify sticking to it. I still don't understand why after 2013/14 we basically completely got rid of the 'Cordner play' which was essentially the opposite to the Thurston-Cooper strategy where we'd go out the back all the time and then one time Pearce would send a very flat cut out pass to Cordner. It used to work beautifully. (Beat the broncos with it at the death in 2014). However, I've barely seen it been attempted since.

I say it every year but the most underused play is the wrap-around. Instead of just using the edge player as a decoy, get his hands on it. If done at pace it creates doubt as to whether he's hitting a hole or offloading. Also makes it seem like they're going short when it's just an extra player essentially involved in a wide shift.

Almost always creates the extra man.

The half has to work harder to make position but it buys them time because technically it's an obstruction but it never gets called.

I actually think one of the nicely executed tries so far this year was the first one Souths scored in round 1 against the tigers. Farah passed it and did a wrap around, got the ball back, simple decoy play out the back and then simple hands and then the centre was used as a 2nd decoy to then go out the back to the winger who at that point was wide open. A nice little variation on the usual worked quite nicely.
