Bulbasaur is the starter you pick up when you're young enough to want to win at all costs but old enough to know what the best way to win and dump after the first few gyms.
I mean I don't know about you, but my group of friends chose them because they thought they were cool or not. At 7-10 years old we weren't really trying to power game.
Yeah but even in terms of which ones seem to be the coolest I'd definitely argue that the coolest/best looking grass and water starters were not in Gen I.
There are a handful of cool starters across all generations but they're all cool in Gen I and 10 year old Athlai wants you to know that na na na na na na na na na Squirtle is the best.
I suppose that's true but it might just be the nostalgia talking. My favourite grass starter is Snivy but I don't really like the other Gen 5 starters so fair enough to exclude that.. but I quite like all the Gen 6 starters.
I haven't even played gen 6 and I still think Greninja is the coolest looking water starter. Chesnaught and Delphox aren't too bad either.
Yeah Gen 6 is basically the only Gen for which my favourite starter is the water one. Greninja is gun and Blastoise can suck it.
Digimon was awesome. I frequently get nostalgic over Digimon World, where 7 year old me playing on the Japanese version had no idea how to make my digimon not digivolve into that poop monster.
