Would wasting time/slowing the game down be feasible?

I think there are some things we can live with excising.

As highlighted from the last game with me and Benny both passing to ourselves, there's an error in the sim.

Fortunately though, this is just because I haven't factored into the commentary part the chance of making a Pick and Go and breaking the line.

Just another set of circumstances I need to add commentary in for. Surprised this hasn't come up before, probably just hasn't been noticed.

    Season Six Wish List

    - Marks (MED priority)
    - Enhance commentary (HIGHEST priority)
    - Pick and Goes - shift balance towards the forwards even more - too many backs attempting PnGs
    - Make charge downs and scrum feed errors less likely (MED priority)
    - Separate out Interceptions from other types of open play move (MED priority)
    - Improve stat output and outcome for forwards around the set piece (HIGH priority)
    - Ensure commentary is provided for the situation where a Pick and Go leads to a line break (HIGH priority)
    - Build macro to turn ten minute blocks of commentary output into "two halves (HIGH priority)
    - Add overtime to the first half (much as overtime has been added to the 2nd) (MED priority)

Deferred until someone has a smart idea

    - Choice of Scrum or Kick from the hand (Free Kick - The Gamblers Gambit)
    - Automated substitutions

Deferred because not that big an enhancement for reasonable work

    - Cutting lineouts down to 3 or 5 man lines (LOW priority)
    - Have line outs separated from line out mauls (to allow the maul resulting from the lineout to have be more specifically dealt with) (LOW priority)
    - Quick Throws (LOW priority)
    - Wind (LOW priority)
    - Pitch conditions (LOW priority)

If I can make a suggestion for next season it would be less infringements at scrum time. In the FINAL even our number 8 got penalised for not binding correctly - I have never seen that in a game. I have seen flankers get done for detaching too early. But never a number 8. Anyway the suggestion is to turn down the probability of getting a scrum time infringement. Will let the game flow more.

Would it be possible for commentary to occasionally give some idea of position on the field?

    Say,

Alex Mediocre thinks about having a dart at the line. He looks to run, but it doesn't look like there's anywhere to go. He's tried to pass that, but it's gone forward and the opposition attempt to gather. They fail too. No advantage there, so we'll have a scrum 10m from the right touchline. Feed to the Earls

    Yeah, probably do-able.

"Now it's time for a line-out. This one will be from the sideline."

    Sound good?

But seriously, yeah, I should be able to do that.

    Cool.

Sounds like a good opportunity to accuse locks of being Isaac Ross mkII really.

Looking forward to the changes for forwards ratings... Getting killed with such big negative points for scrum penalties or not straight line out throws.

    ---

Updated. Tactical subs are now working nicely and the commentary mentions the substitution automatically too, which is another little manual adjustment that I don't need to make any more. Still have to deal with the injuries manually for now. I think I know how to get this happening automatically, but it would be a huge and tedious job to do it, so I'm leaving that for now.

Working to rebalance the scores for front rowers tonight.

What I'm looking to do is provide a statistical reward for forcing a scrum penalty from the opposition. Basically, what happens at the moment is that the offending front rower is penalised whenever a scrum penalty occurs, but the winning scrummager doesn't receive any benefit.

Basically what I'm proposing is that when a scrum penalty is conceded for poor binding, front rowers angling in, front rowers popping up or for the scrum collapsing then the penalised player's opposite number gets a tick against them.

For example, the Spartans are playing the Sharks and if the Spartans' Tighthead Prop is pinged for poor binding, then the Sharks' Loosehead Prop will get a Scrum Penalty Won point which will be equal and opposite in value to the Scrum Infringement statistical penalty.

I'm not exactly an expert in scrummaging, so does this make sense?

    I think it is fine.

The obvious weakness is that fucks like Wyatt Crockett infringe at every scrum and when he gets caught it has nothing to do with the other prop putting pressure on him.

    Makes sense.

Would it be a useful stat to show Number of Rucks Cleaned Out by a player? The engine actually already knows who is doing this (as evidenced by the Rucks Contested stat - it knows exactly who is involved at each ruck) but I could probably add a stat showing who's doing a lot of the cleaning out?

EDIT: Also, are there any other forwards-based stats that I should be collecting? Blackout Rugby afficionados might have an idea or two?

Metres after contact would be a good one if you don't already have it

  16. HeathDavisSpeed HT Davis

Okay - can you give me a definition of exactly what you mean by that? Distance achieved between the tackle starting and the ruck forming?

  17. Jabba HJ Bots

Distance from first contact resulting in any outcome; ruck, knock on, try etc. I'm pretty sure though this wouldn't include pure linebreaks which would make it a bit of a flawed statistic and potentially hard to implement unless you had a way of telling the distance player x ran before passing the ball to player y after breaking a tackle

Built some more macros to take the stats output for each game to compile a full season stats table (which appends the last match to the existing data table)

This should mean I can give updated tallies for season to date stats and POTS/COTS tallies much more frequently and without the need to go and update a separate spreadsheet.

  19. Furball G Furball

Do you need a macro to tell you Wheelson was COTS?

  20. HeathDavisSpeed HT Davis

Well, as I recall I probably did to realise that Mister Fourex had been even more shunty than Wheelson. Curse Fourex's under-the-radar shuntiness.
