Looking Forward To Round 5

This week we anticipate the big fixture of the Vikings vs the Spartans. With the Spartans finally getting back on track, winning against the Cheetahs. This was, of course, after the drama that some Spartans players tried to bunk off the match and to use a brothel nearby, and having other players (most notably Jake Luffman) stand in, pretending to be them. A quick investigation decided to restart was the fairest contest and it went from there.

An explosive performance from new man Shaw ensured the Spartans won comfortably, with two debut tries, and a solid kicking performance from GB man Ed Ames ensured the Spartans got home. However, another solid performance from Ged King, the Australian Outside Half, kept the Cheetahs in touch, but they didn't have quite enough ball to ensure a win.

"It's good to be back to winning ways," said Spartans President, Marcuss Deane.

"We needed a win, and regardless of the scoreline it wasn't easy. The Cheetahs are getting better every week, but we were stronger in attack and it paid off. Hats off to Escath who was brilliant on debut, and to the rest of the lads in the scrum who gave the backs a platform on which to attack."

Cheetahs Captain, Jordan Logan, was quite happy with the result.

"Obviously we're not the strongest team in the competition, which is surprising when you actually look at the team, but we lack depth. We did ourselves justice, and maybe if we'd had Sammy Graham at Fullback it'd have been a different story."

The Cheetahs also lost Tim Clough to injury, which may hinder his chances of making it into the GB team for the Provinicial matches in a few weeks.

The Vikings will be looking to get back on track after being surprised by an excellent performance by the Giants. Expected to be very close, rookie Fly Half, Matt Scoble, dominated the game and allowed the Giants to come away with the victory.

Big Ben Manera suggested that his team were below par.

"We didn't have our first choice backs out, but we shouldn't have been carved open like that. I thought we could've won that, but we weren't up to scratch in defence. Hats off to Taylor and Cambridge in the centres though, who were both playing out of position but were excellent nevertheless."

On the other hand, Giants President, Chris Golding, was a much happier man.

"I thought this could go either way, and in training Dion Alessi was impressive, and Mousey needed a rest so it made the decision easier. But hats off to Scoble, he was brilliant and showed exactly why I signed him and have been starting him. He's happy here which is great, and I'm looking forward to playing alongside him for a while to come."

An injury to out of form winger Al Farnsworth marred the performance, but another solid performance by the underrated Giants pack delivered their backs the ball with which to score. A first try for KP Glensor topped the performance, and Golding said that he was really happy with the Prop's development.

"Another rookie, but his development has been amazing. I think he's really one for the future and he deserved to be in Herd's squad in my opinion."

The Cheetahs will meet the Giants this Sunday, and big clashes will be in the front row, where Eddie Morris and Scott Flack will be locking horns. Both men lead their respective front rows, and it'll be a key battle.

Another one will be that of Ben Hornby at 10. It'll be his Giants debut, however his livewire game is expected to produce a helter-skelter game. If it comes off, the Giants should win, but President Golding has confirmed he and Gary Weaver will start in the Centres to add some solidarity to the lineup.

The Cheetahs camp is certainly buzzing. Sam Verigotta and James McDougal will want to win as much lineout ball as possible in order to starve the Giants backline of attacking, and clean, ball, and Jordan Logan will look to expose the Giants back three.

All in all, another big weekend in Seasonal Rugby, and news off the grapevine is that the Cheetahs are being investigated for attempting to lure Giants' players Golding and Laing to the Den. Some say they've offered money, others say sex-slaves have been offered. Whatever the outcome, we'll tell you next week. Until then goodbye.
