Player makes an arse of kicking

Looks like Chad Dyer is moonlighting in today's game, that's a complete fuck up from [player].

Strange. I never did anything with the material in this thread, even though it's easy enough to add.

So, before I start making any changes - are there any more commentary submissions which people would like to make?

After a try for a video ref decision... "he's gone to the square in the air"

I'll do a few more when I get home.

Great kick. That finds touch [X] metres up-field. The players run up to form the line out." (Successful Tactical Kick)

A good punt that gains them [x] metres of territory.
That's crossed the touchline [x] metres upfield. He'll be pretty pleased with that.
Nicely done! That's bounced right before heading into touch, gaining them x metres.

Poor kick. He's failed to find touch there, and the [Team Name] snap up the ball (Poor tactical kick for touch)

Oh dear - a shocking mishit there and the gift is gratefully received by the opposition. We're still in play.
It's been hit low and there's some fine defensive work to keep the ball in. The ref motions for play on.

Poor option. He's hit that straight to the opposition and they've lost possession (Grubber kick goes straight to opponent)

That was never on! He's delivered the ball straight into opposition hands.
Well the idea was worthwhile but the kick wasn't. He's chipped it harmlessly to the oncoming defender.

[Player Name] with the ball for the [Team Name] Ah, he's not going to make it all the way, he's been tackled but he managed to gain [X] metres there (Line Break, No Try)

And [player] is through! He could be in for the try here - ah, the cover defense gets there to bring him down. He's still gained his side x metres.
[player] steps inside and off he goes! A great break - but he's not out of the woods yet as [tackler] bears down on him. A run of x metres before the tackle comes in.
Oh, where was the support?! [player] will be furious after breaking x metres past the line. Only one man to beat but he couldn 't get the ball away, taking it into contact instead.

-That run was harder than a Priest in a Preschool

I am not referring to the opening post - but perhaps these will fit

And he is hit by a huge tackle that would have made Jerry Collins proud
What a bulldozing run by the forward reminiscent of Buck Shelford
What a run by the winger shades of Kirwan in '87
And he's gone right around him there's the goose step Campese style
And the half back gets the ball out quickly through a dive pass Dave Loveridge style
And this kick to win it from the sideline - takes me back to Gavin Hastings all those years ago.

I like those, mate (the Campese one is already in there, as it happens :)) but I'm not sure how many guys other than half a dozen would get most of those references, really.

Gavin Hastings was a magnificent Fullback if I was GF I would take offence at your suggestion that he is not well known.

And everyone has seen this try

Well, given how the average poster on here is not a union fan by any stretch of the imagination, I kinda disagree. All Aussies will surely know Campese, but I doubt many will know Hastings - though I'm sure most Northern Hemisphere guys will know who he is to some extent.

  12. Hurricane JD Hurricane

Well that's poor. It basically restricts the memorable commentary one liners down to the level of sexual innuendo, and contemporary memes.

Don't mind me I will deal with it. I take it the aussies will know contemporary all blacks and australian players? Let me rustle up something else in a couple of minutes.

I think there's already a reference to Kirwan in there. I don't mind putting references to players in there, but try and keep them to the world famous guys... Not sure who those would be, necessarily, but Lomu, Campese, Joost... There'd be a few

Don't think it'd hurt to include them anyway; would help to educate.

Hastings is my favourite player of all time. Favourite memory of him is scoring under the posts in the dying minutes in 1995 to seal our first win in Paris for years.

"And thats a huge tackle has he gone past the 90 degrees though? No ref says play on. Massive hit."
"And its a midfield bomb and the (insert player name) climbs high in the air like Israel Folau to take it"
"What a sidestep - would have made kurtley beale proud"
"And he's isolated a forward in the defensive line and he's gone right around him"
"And he's taken the ball into contact, a ruck forms, it looks like that player has come in from the side but the ref hasn't spotted it and the turnover has been won - very Ritchie McCaw like"
"Oh it looks like the player has called the referee a cunt and he is marching them back another ten metres".
"And he's got the ball and he is running away from the defence like he's running from the cops and he goes all the way".
"He has taken the ball into contact and they've turned him terrific work that would have made George Smith proud (will they know him? if not insert Pocock)"
"And player X has really been shaken up by that hit but he is going to continue what a warrior"
"What a pass and he's in the clear - really if Wally Lewis had've played union he would have been proud of that beaut".

I knew you would have him high on your list. He has great mana amongst NZ rugby fans. Please tell me that he is still well known by the man on the street in Scotland.

I'd imagine he'd be very well known amongst rugby fans, and he was certainly high profile enough to star in healthy eating adverts in the late 90s. Whether he'd be well known amongst your average Joe is another thing - rugby simply doesn't have a big profile in the Scottish media.

-He's through a hole and my word he's got some toe, crosses the line quicker than Gemmell in a womens rights thread
