I reckon you should play another bowler ahead of Albie. Pathan maybe?

  2. Cribbage RG Cribb

Albie's been a bit of a beast in domestic cricket with the ball lately. He was actually their Round 1 pick IIRC, so I think they'll be picking him. :p

  3. Athlai JJD Heads

Yeah I was making the suggestion as Albie doesn't need to play in the trials because he is a sure starter.

  4. HeathDavisSpeed HT Davis

Yeah. I kind of know what to expect from Pathan as we had him last season. I want to see what kind of first-change action we can get from Albie to see whether he'll be any good in that role.

  5. HeathDavisSpeed HT Davis

Sure starter, but in what role?

  6. Athlai JJD Heads

    Batsman and 3rd 4th bowler I'd think.

  7. Hunter AD Hunt

    God.

  8. Fungus K Fung

Sounds good. Test Irfan out in the second trial?

  9. HeathDavisSpeed HT Davis

Yeah. It'd be good to try the expected First XI in the 2nd trial - I think Pathan should probably be in there.

  10. Fungus K Fung

Alright, let's name that side. Can't wait until the trials - hopefully it doesn't take too long.

We are playing Gemmell in the second trial?

    Yep. I believe so.

So, after the trails, what's our revised first XI?

Do we drop a bowler for a bit more batting? Would Sunil Joshi be a better bet than Ramesh Powar? If Albeh keeps playing shite, then we might be better off dropping him for Stiaan van Zyl or Shoaib Malik! The other question is who is better out of van Zyl, Malik and Benkie.

    1. Heino Kuhn (+)
    2. Fawad Alam
    3. Mohammad Wasim
    4. Virat Kohli
    5. Jesse Ryder (5/6)
    6. Dale Benkenstein
    7. Albie Morkel (4)
    8. Irfan Pathan (3)
    9. Sunil Joshi (6/5)
    10. Friedel de Wet (2)
    11. Peter Siddle (1)

I'll probably go with that. Same side as you named, but with Joshi in for Powar. Thoughts?

  15. HeathDavisSpeed HT Davis

I've just replaced Ryder with van Zyl for round two, but another bowling performance like the last and we'll have to think about bring Rauf in for Siddle, I reckon.

  16. Fungus K Fung

Yeah, really disappointed with our bowling. And that none of our batsmen got a century.

  17. HeathDavisSpeed HT Davis

So, van Zyl had a good game and Siddle finally showed some wicket taking prowess.

The question is, with Ryder back available, do we drop van Zyl, or reward him for his century by dropping Benkenstein instead?

Now worried about Friedel de Wet. Not playing badly but not proving to be very penetrative.

  18. Fungus K Fung

    I reckon drop Benkenstein?

  19. HeathDavisSpeed HT Davis

Worst performing proper batsman is Fawad Alam at the moment. Jeez. Tough decision, but I'm thinking Ryder for Benkie too at this stage, but it's a tough break for the Yarpie.

  20. Cribbage RG Cribb

Fawad and Kuhn are both averaging in the teens; it's a shame none of your middle order players can open and/or keep. Dropping someone averaging 46 (Benk) or 56 (SvZ) would be harsh but you're going to have to in reality.
