Bannerman Shield Team of the Week - Week B

Discussion in 'Bannerman Shield' started by Verigoat, Apr 9, 2012.

  1. Verigoat S Verigotta

    1. S Bakkum
    <img src=http://cricsim.com/site/images/logos/3.png>

    Bakkum was the only opener who impressed in more than just a single innings this week. Scoring a 60 and an 81 he was one of the few reasons why Crusaders wern't taken out by an entire innings.

    2. A Vago
    <img src=http://cricsim.com/site/images/logos/12.png>

    As mentioned in Bakkums sum up there was only one person that got 2 good innings scores so the 2nd opener was the one who managed to leave their mark the most on their one good innings. And that was Vago, a solid 81 in the first innings helped put pressure on the stickies in their 2nd innings and even though he fell quickly in the 2nd innings he still did his part in helping the Gamblers ease through to victory.

    3. J Torres
    <img src=http://cricsim.com/site/images/logos/7.png>

    Even though he only had one innings to knock the ball about he did it to a level we're all used to after his previous season. With 195 he completely cleaned up the Cyclones bowling attack, and if Cyclones would of given him a 2nd chance to bat he would of almost certainly worked them over again.

    4. BJ Gemmell
    <img src=http://cricsim.com/site/images/logos/12.png>

    Another single innings batsmen. Gamblers finished off the stickies before Gemmell managed to get back in, but his 139 helped get them get the first innings points for the game and give them a healthy lead over the Stickies to push them onto victory

    5. JA Chewie
    <img src=http://cricsim.com/site/images/logos/4.png>

    This puma completely destroyed the ALC in his debut season last season, and given the chance to do the same for BS thats exactly what hes done. Scoring a 104 and 54 against the Ravens bowling attack would be excellent for anyone, but for such an young allrounder its even better, and he only looks to be getting better.

    6. LE Schaw
    <img src=http://cricsim.com/site/images/logos/4.png>

    I can't imagine we will be seeing Schaws name here that often, but credit where credits due hes not only earned a place here, hes earned it in a week where we've had a few good Wicket keepers performances, and even one excellent one from Dempsey. What got him over the line was his 122 in his first innings. In a match where Pumas won by less than 40 runs Schaw and Chewies performances against such a good bowling attack stood out even more.

    7. BS Read
    <img src=http://cricsim.com/site/images/logos/12.png>

    Benny takes up the 5th bowling option this week. Only getting one batting innings he managed 74, he also got 4 wickets including Spiers, Allesi and Thornton. After never really being able to contribute much in terms of first class bowling he'll be looking to push on this season the same way hes started.

    8. WC Welker
    <img src=http://cricsim.com/site/images/logos/7.png>

    His 2nd appearance in as many weeks he looks an early shout to be the best bowler of the season 7 wickets @16 just edges out Emm for the spinner of the side. Even though he got 1 less wicket he conceeded about 40 runs less and actually managed to do something in both innings. I can see myself getting sick of writing things about Welker in the coming weeks with the sheer amount of times im going to have to include him.

    9. L Tyson
    <img src=http://cricsim.com/site/images/logos/12.png>

    A 9 wicket total against the Stickies. While a few of his wickets was just bullying the tail, he managed to take out the main dangermen in Spiers, Allesi and Parker in the first innings. He completely shut them down before they even got going.

    10. HT Davis
    <img src=http://cricsim.com/site/images/logos/6.png>

    After the first bowling innings of the Allstars no one could really see it being Heaths match with the pill. Emm stormed the innings taking 8 wickets while Davis only managed one. Once the 2nd innings started it took a while before a wicket fell but once they did Davis got himself in stride had started taking them for fun. Taking 8 wickets in the 2nd innings he managed 9 in total @ 17. With Farnsworth doing fuck all in the match, Allstars are going to have to hope Davis can keep this up

    11. MP Chung
    <img src=http://cricsim.com/site/images/logos/5.png>

    The classic number 11 was the only one of the bowlers to bat twice, and with that still managed to get 0 runs. But obviously thats not why he's here. 9 Match wickets @ 15 at a 4/5 split over the 2 innings showed how much of a threat he was over the length of the match. The best bowler of the week, not by much. But still the best

    2. A Vago
    3. J Torres
    4. BJ Gemmell
    5. JA Chewie
    6. LE Schaw+
    7. BS Read
    8. WC Welker
    9. L Tyson
    10. HT Davis
    11. MP Chung

    Player of the Week: Torres and Chung are going to have to split the POTW award this week. Both performances were outstanding, both performances have tiny negatives to go with them. While Torres' score was huge, it was against the Cyclones bowling, and while Chung took 9 wickets at a redonkulous average his team didn't actually win. Both only small things but with both of those points niether managed to edge the other one out of it. Nothing should be taken away from them though.

    Team of the week Total runs: 974
    Team of the week Total wickets: 41

    Notable mentions -
    R Gee an impressive 84 runs in one innings, but thats all he had. While having a better average than Verigotta it was against a much poorer bowling attack, none the less a top score for one bite at the cherry.

    JB Dempsey - The other great wicket keeping performance of the round, better with the gloves than Schaw but didn't even manage Schaws first innings total in the entire match.

    HG Emm - The only thing preventing him from taking Welkers spot as the main spinner this week was himself. His 2nd innings was far from good, getting knocked all over the place made his match performance a lot worse than it should of been.

    E Ames - No faggots allowed. But in all seriousness he just fell short of the runs needed to overtake Verigottas position. A great century none the less

    S Verigotta - Was in the team before morgie pointed out Gemmell. Good score vs vipers bowling attack etcetcetc

    Glad to make it. Think that'll be my only appearance though, unless there's a week particularly bad for bowling.

  15. McGrath JE McGrath

    Good work Veri :gun:

  16. Eds E Ames

    I'd have Tyson batting ahead of Welker. One or two less runs but he did it against a much better attack.

    Good article, btw.

    I'm sure a lot of people notice it and appreciate it, it's just that they have nothing constructive to say. You're doing a good job regardless, keep going.
