Announcement: Provincial Cricket Structure Season 13

Discussion in 'Provincial Competitions' started by Cribbage, May 27, 2013.

  1. Howe JHF Howe

Furball playing for a province he's not from would be funny but it'd be somewhat against the spirit of things

  2. Furball G Furball

No different to the Aussies playing for Celtic Provinces.

  3. Scottie NG Scott

I assume playing for Nullabor would cancel out my eligibility for the PC?

  4. Cribbage RG Cribb

Yeah. The idea is that Nullarbor eventually qualify for the PC though.

The good news is that you'll add to your tally of 1 List A run, as Nullarbor are in the OD comp.

  5. Scottie NG Scott

Well, theoretically add to it at least.

  6. Scottie NG Scott

I've been in the absolute pits of Pitsville this season.

  7. Cribbage RG Cribb

I'm sure you won't get four consecutive ducks in the tournament.

If you are looking to cut back, scrap some of the meaningless stuff

New Zealand v British Isles, Victoria v Asia series

Provincial Second XI Championship (5D, Second Class cricket)
    - New competition name needed; yet to be determined.
    - Will run as North and South conferences.
    - North Conference will be contested between Celtic Provinces A*, Northern England A, Southern England A, Asia A and Queensland A.
    - South Conference will be contested between NSW Country A, NSW City A, New Zealand A, Victoria A and Nullarbor.
    - Each team will play each other team in its own division once, in a three round competition.
    - At the end of the competition, there will be two semi finals (North 1 v South 2; and South 1 v North 2) and then a final (winners of the two semis) to determine the premiers.

No history in the 2 series I have mentioned. Do people even care?
Provincial 2nds why is it needed? you have BS and ALC to judge wether a player could be close to a call up to the PC team

    1. It's being moved to post-season, so no you don't.
    2. It's now a development tool as well.
    3. It doesn't actually make the season any longer because it's simmed on the same day as provincial firsts.

This is an announcement thread. Not a thread for you and Lukic to come in to and call for the scrapping of every provincial comp you don't play in.

I'm not looking for suggestions to make wholesale changes to what I said in the OP.

People really don't understand how scheduling works whenever they make suggestions to stream-line it. Having less games per week does not make the season go faster.

I'd say there is definitely CricSim history between NZ v Britain. Yes in the real world it means nothing but on here it does IMO.

I wouldn't also agree with there being State of Origin while everyone else was sitting on the side line. If something like that happened I'd say it should happen at the same time as the club stuff and the NSW and QLD players would have to take part in one or the other, so they were also missing out on something in return.

  11. Jabba HJ Bots

It doesn't make the season go faster I know this but it would increase your desire to sim IMO. The more meaningful the games are the more likely you are to say get it done in when you have a spare hour or two instead of watching a TV series or something.

The Britain v NZ series and the Asia v Victoria series were only invented to give other teams something to do while the Origin series was going. However, they've started develop rivalries over time, even if they have no real-world context.

The real point, though, is that scrapping that games wouldn't give us any extra time. It'd just give us less games. The Origin games would still have to go ahead, so they'd just be going by themselves for a week.

  13. Jabba HJ Bots

Well it generally garners no real discussion from us we just rock up and play. Could be against Asia for all we really care.

It isn't about equal opportunities, it was a suggestion in making the load easier for Cribb to get time to sim. If that meant some people play more games then others so be it.

Anyway last post on the subject for I get off'd

Another thing about the Britain/NZ series is that it's now the only time Britain gets to play together as Britain. They'll be England and Celtic Provinces in the PC, and Southern England, Northern England and Celtic Provinces in the RT. It's a chance for guys like Callum, Furball, Doog, Tarty, Skippos etc to push for a more exclusive rep team if they're good enough, and if the British Isles lose then they won't be able to moan all rep season long about how getting split up cost them a chance of winning the PC. :p

  15. Jabba HJ Bots

I thought skip, tarty etc wouldn't be allowed to play in that team considering they chose other provinces over it the first time?

Would bring mass calls for heads to rolled by the British public considering they decided to not to play for them once. :p

  16. Escath LE Schaw

Beneficial side effect is that it'll feel more like you need to earn your right to play for your province over the whole season.

  17. Cribbage RG Cribb

Yeah there will hopefully be more discussion about who is going to make the provincial side all through the season rather than it just being a week to week decision all season.

It's not being done for that reason, at all, but it'd be a nice bonus. :p

  18. Baxter MJ Deane

North v South after this yeah?

Then a Test and ODI series? :ninja:

  19. HeathDavisSpeed HT Davis

Gah. Southern England. There's a team I can get behind.

Would be even better if it'd been the Sexxies instead of just plain old Southern England.

And this was my other immediate thought.

The reason I've gone with a more integrated approach is that by having a separate Club and Provincial period, it led to a real disconnect between the two.

Club subforums being devoid of activity as no club games were going, and then Provincial guys being shocked when they suddenly out-of-the-blue had to select teams. In fact, new selectors were required for three teams for the SR provincial stuff.

I'd say that's the biggest risk with these changes; it marginalises the Provincial subforums for the bulk of the CricSim season.
